One of the craziest stats I've seen in real-life MLB
The Braves 2B Dan Uggla has a 31-game hitting streak now ... bringing up his batting average up to a *sarcasm* fearsome .224. For you sabermetricians, his OBP is now .289.
What were his numbers before the streak? .173 AVG and .241 OBP. I find it very mind-blowing that a Mendoza-line guy gets the necessary playing-time and has the wherewithal to get a 31-game hitting streak going with base numbers that are so pathetic. The odds would seem astronomical. |

As for playing time, he makes $9M now and $13M for 4 more years. He plays no matter what. ![]() Uggla's contract makes the OOTP AI look fairly good. What was the Braves GM thinking?

If you go of batting average Alex Gonzalez is .235, his obp is lower than Uggla's at .263. Nate McLouth's avg is .228 but his obp is higher than Uggla's at .344 and Jason Heyward's avg is again lower than Uggla's at .218 with his obp higher at .313. So that's 3 other players who aren't much better or even worse than Uggla in either avg or obp, only so many players you can bench plus Uggla leads the team in hr's and rbi's.
And looking at their depth chart at 2B, Brooks Conrad is next up with a .232 avg and a .333 obp and after that is Julio Lugo with a massive .154 avg and .214 obp. And as RchW states he is on a $9m contract, kind of makes you think when would a manager bench a high priced player. Uggla, Gonzalez, McLouth and Heyward earn around $20m, easy to bench them in OOTP but in real life

In related news, Uggla's OPS is 124 points higher than Adam Dunn. |

As you said the Braves starting rotation and specially their bullpen is keeping them in games along with Brian McCann and Freddie Freeman. |
