Trade AI settings in OOTP 12

What setting do you find to be the most challenging and realistic combined?

I am starting to think hard is not very realistic, and that average might be a better setting in OOTP 12. What do others think?

I use the Hard setting except during the winter meetings when I move it to Average. I have found it to be pretty difficult to get a decent trade at this setting, but I still find the Average setting too easy to rip off the AI, especially by trading expensive, on the decline old veterans for up and coming high potential prospects. It seems a little better than OOTP 11 but I'd still like a setting between the 2 (or make Average a little less easy).

In the past I've use hard, but this year I find Average to be more to my liking. I've made trades that are quite realistic and it is no longer as easy to fleece the AI.

I use average...sometimes the A/I likes to rip me off now too and thats good as long as it doesn't happen too often.

I am using hard/neutral and I really like it. I still get some fair trades but it is really hard to fleece the AI.

The hard in 12 is, in my opinion, significantly harder than in past versions. Haven't tried average yet but may have to make the switch.

Probably hard, it is hard to make favourable trades on hard but not impossible. Average is maybe more "fun" as hard is sometimes hard work, but I think hard is more realistic.

I always go for neutral as favor prospects makes it way too easy to get established major leaguers, including star players.

It is really hard to find a setting that is good all the time. In the past I used either Hard / Neutral or Very Hard / Neutral. In general, Very Hard is too restrictive and too many fair trades are rejected by the AI. Hard is better, but still suffers from this somewhat.

I only do 1 for 1 or 2 for 2 trades, but some players the AI just undervalues and you can get a steal if you take it. If I am playing on Hard and I think I am getting too much of a steal, sometimes I will switch to Very Hard and see if the AI still accepts it.

I've always used Hard/Neutral in the past but after reading this thread I might give Average/Neutral a try.

This is what I'm using as well. I wish it were easier to trade for minor league players though. I find it very difficult to trade for even the lowest of prospects (21/21). I'll offer up a decent major leaguer and try to get some scrub and the only way they'll trade is if I throw in my 21/71 top prospect.

One of the unfortunate problems with the average setting is that you can often trade for a player and then immediately turn around and shop the newly acquired player for an even better player than was available with the guy you just traded.

I understand logically why that is possible, but it does make it hard to leave the setting at average.

Can someone clarify this for me? If I set the AI trade setting to "Favor Veterans" does that mean the AI wants my veterans and will offer me prospects? Or do I assume they want my veterans and will offer me veterans because it assumes I "favor veterans"?

There are times - like for salary dumps, I'd love to trade a veteran in return for a decent prospect. But other times, I'd like to trade a decent prospect or an established veteran for another veteran.

Can someone clarify what "Favor Veteran" or "Favor Prospects" means to a human GM?

The AI will place more value on veterans.

sometimes I wonder...I'm really starting to think the entire game (with limited exceptions) just uses real/true ratings for most every form of analysis it performs. Sorry once again to "pull back the curtain".

As others have voiced, I wouldn't mind seeing a level between Average and Hard.

What do people use for the trading frequency?

In the past I used Low just because I read somewhere that anything higher results in too many trades, but I have no idea if it was good advice or not.

I did too for some time, but I am now using very low...I feel it yields a more realistic number of trades

HMMMM......I used average / very hard / neutral in OOTP11 but bought it right before the release of 12 and never made it past 15 games into the season. I play out all my games pitch by pitch including minors. I never had the opportunity to attempt a serious trade.

When I upgraded to OOTP12 I kept these same settings and I can't get the AI to agree to anything. Offered my top 2 prospects including a left handed starter and my top 2 major leaguers for a 37 yo scrub and was turned down. All players offered were positions that showed a weakness too.

Now reading this I think I am going to change to average / hard / neutral.

Anyone else play with trading set to very hard and have the same problem.

IMO, I think "low" is excellent.
