Your Personal Most Home Runs in a Season

What's the most home runs in a season you guys have been able to get, and what ratings best maximize this?

I set my guy to 250 L/R power, and about 90/100 everything else (with exceptionally low gap), and, in a hitter's park, was able to get 78. Since then though, as my other overall stats have increased (AVG, gap, etc), the most I've gotten is 68.

I was able to get 152 out of Jay Bruce

Here is my prescription for hitting home runs:

1) Take your best hitting and edit to give him 250 contact 250 power and 250 eye

2) Release all pitchers from other teams

3) delete all of these pitchers plus any other free agents

3) create a fictional pitcher (free agent)

4) give him a 2 (out of 250) in movement and a 2 (out of 250) in stuff

5) clone this pitcher 500 times

6) Start hitting home runs

I got two home runs in 1984. I was playing for Herrin Box Company, in East Abington Little League. Both shots were wall-hitters, inside the park jobs. I was a fast guy and legged them out. I remember one was against Seafood Shanty, who sucked at the time. I was more of a Larry Bowa than a Greg Luzinski.

Thanks for letting me relive the tale

I can do "better" than that in one simple step, requiring no cheating....

In one of my test sims, I had a guy hit 300+ home runs before the game crashed.....

It's probably a generic.

What most new people do not understand is the full extent of the customization in OOTP! You can set-up leagues however you can dream them up, and that's what makes the game so great. You are not limited to just playing real baseball.

Here's a moon league, for example:

(actually, I created this quickly to make a point, the actual league leader in HR had 256, and thus had 0, because of a long-standing coding limitation.)

I guess I should be more specific; I meant HR's in an MLB format, without obvious exploits. I mean, I could just set my stadium's fences to 1 foot

Would you mind if I prescribe this route in the future. It will help me fend off carpal tunnel.

Actually, that doesn't work, as stadium dimensions are purely cosmetic. So your home run output would remain the same with 91 foot fences or 350 foot fences or 1500 foot fences. The fence distances only affects the length of the already determined homerun result.

I see no difference between editing a player to max values or adding a zero to the homerun modifier (in fact, I believe mine is less "cheating" than yours).

That's why it's so hard to show off around here. You can manipulate whatever you want in your solo league.

I wasn't trying to show off , all I meant was that there are some variables that could be changed that I'm not looking to change. Also, with the fence comment, I thought it was implied that the ballpark factors would be changed alongside it.

All I want to know is, in a neutral, major league environment, what is the most home runs you've ever gotten in a single season, and what player ratings did you use/manipulate in order to get to that total. There's no need to take a rude tone.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

I have got 152 HR's before. But you have to have 250 power, contact, and avoid strikeouts. Lower gap power is probably better. Not sure about eye. You don't want him walking but you also don't want him striking out.

Also, you want to make pitchers he will be facing with low movement and stuff. Not sure about control. Probably ave. to good control as I sadi you don't want walks.

The most I've seen in a reasonable setting is 75. Isaac Infante hit 342 HR in his first 7 seasons, but thanks to a nasty bug in the 6.5 to 2007 conversion that caused all of the players under 25 to suddenly tank at the age of 30, he hit 5 HR at the age of 30 one year after knocking out 50 HR. He hit 1 HR at the age of 31 and was out of baseball before his 32nd birthday.

Has this bug been fixed?

This isn't an entire season, but Greg Halman is having a pretty good season.....

His ratings are only 47-56-75-44-17 according to my scout (who is very good).

I created a 42 game 12 team major league that runs in the same real world as the MLB. Our financials are lower than the MLB so we often get good talent guys for about 8 years then they move on. Previously our best HR guy was 24 hrs in 42 games...which I thought was great.

However, we had a guy who a team was able to sign away from Texas Rangers (he was 24 I think) and had 85 overall power which was the best in the league at the time. The funny thing is that his career high in a full season playing 156 games in the MLB was only 36.

He's 29 and still in our league now but has only hit 14 total in a season since that magical year. I'm having a blast with my fictional league following events that happen like this one.

The 256 code limit went by the wayside when OOTP moved to a new engine, which was after 6.5.

We haven't noticed any similar problems converting to 8, 9, X, or 11; and long term tests I've done in X and 11 look fine. It just seems to have been something wonky with the 6.5 to 2007 conversion we had, and it may have been something specific to our file, I've never heard from anyone else who made the 6.5-2007 conversion that had a similar problem.
