Where do I start?

I'm a relative beginner to OOTP 12, and I must say that I'm a little daunted by the sheer number of options available to me. I really don't know where to start in creating a league.

Does anyone have suggestions for a basic league setup to use for a beginner?

I would like more than one affiliated league, but I don't think that I want to deal with something on the scope of the MLB quite yet. I also like the idea of using feeder leagues.

I will give you some the the suggestions that I got. Start small. Maybe a league of 10-16 teams. This will help you learn the players. I don't remember the formula for creating enough feeder league teams to populate your league so check the manual. I would also suggest starting with the ABA quickstart so you don't have to go crazy trying to get uniforms, logos, jerseys, and caps setup. I have spent weeks tweaking those things without 'playing' a game. Do you plan on using fictional or real players? What year do you plan on beginning play?

Well, I plan on using fictional players, and I'm not really sure WHEN I want to play, but I read something on here about setting up a league then simulating for 20 years or so to get historical stats for all the players, so I figured I would start so that when I actually start playing it will be close to current time period.

I would second starting with the ABA quickstart, that's what I did when I first bought the game two or three versions ago. It is very well done and lets you have fun while playing around with the game until you're ready to start you own league setup.

Good suggestion; an international league might be good as well.

Here's what I ended up doing

24 teams, 2 leagues with 2 divisions of 6 teams each.

4 minor leageues, AAA,AA,A and Rookie, same setup

1 college and 1 HS feeder league of 60 teams each (this may be a bit too many)

20 round amateur draft with enough prospects for 24 or 25 rounds.

I simulated for 25 years, erased the history, then simulated 5 more to create enough history for the feeder leagues.

I've managed 1 year of a college team so far, hoping to be offered a Minor league job in the future.

The only issue I have, and I'm not sure it even IS an issue, is that there are some 3400 Free Agents. This seems like a lot.
