Problem with online league

Hi,
Im having a problem with my online league i have set up with my friends....hoping someone here has an idea of what im doing wrong. Set it all up in OOTP12 using the 2 you tube videos showing how to set all the options and such. Made the league an official OOTP online league. Now when my friends try to join they get a message saying "error, the the league files have not been updated". They get that at about 58percent complete when downloading. Anyone have any ideas on what i might have done wrong? Thx

I don't think a league of 3 friends was what OOTP had in mind as 'official OOTP leagues'. Seems like that will muddy things up for everyone trying to join a real online league.

Between friends, you should have just added them as managers in the game and put a league file up for them to download. No need to be an OOOL, in my opinion.

With OOOL, clients download the league file via HTTP. Just the OOOL server tells the client what the URL is to pull the file from. So there are a few places with OOOL that this could break down if you do not have something quite right.

1) Did you update OOOL that there is a new file? (perhaps OOOL doesn't know there is a new file available).

2) Were you logged in to OOOL when you updated the league file status? Are the other GMs logged in to OOOL when trying to pull down the new file? (if you aren't logged in to OOOL when you try some functions, it gives an error).

3) Is the file where OOOL thinks it should be and is telling the clients to download? You can perhaps try a manual download of the league file from your web server (don't use OOOL) to verify the file is actually there ok.

4) Is the client using any kind of anti-virus or personal firewall software? Thus far in my testing, I have found some Antivirus products or personal firewall software really do not like the way OOTP12 downloads new online league files and seems to block it. Try turning off your antivirus and personal firewall software and download again. If it works with those turned off, you likely can just add OOTP12 to the trusted applications list for that software and see if that helps it in the future.

... or maybe it is none of these things, and is something else. I'll echo what Cooley said though that I'm not sure OOOL makes perfect sense for a small 3 person league. You have to do 90% of the same setup for an OOOL league that you do for a league not in OOOL, but then you have several other extra steps that are needed to be done. I would say it is extra effort/hassle for an OOOL league than one that is not. The benefits from it however is the extra advertising for people to join your league easier, or find your league. If you are running a small 3 person league, i don't think you care about that benefit though. Your choice though, but just remember with OOOL, you still have to manage/run your own FTP and HTTP server though.

Thx for the reply guys. To be honost only reason i made my small league official was because thats the only online tutorial i could find explaining how to do things. That was from the 2 ootp12 videos that were posted a few days ago.
Currently im using my allsimbaseball website as my FTP server and am pretty confident ive gotten that all set up right. If im not making my league official how do i go about getting my 'buds able to join? Id greatly appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.

From what I can tell, if you choose not to use the OOOL, then the setup for online leagues in ootp12 appears to be identical to the previous set up in ootp11. So following the ootp11 online league guides or instructions in the online manual for ootp11 should theoretically work for ootp12 as well.
