Longest running league you have?

I have a league that I started back with OOTP v3 (10 real years ago?!?) that I have imported and carried over with each new release of OOTP - started in 1978 currently in 2016.

With hours till the next release and import, tell me what is your longest running league is.

I've done a couple of leagues that went 130ish years (1870's to present), but that's with me just "watching" the first hundred or so years and only taking over a team in the modern era.

Nowhere close to you guys but I have league that I have played out almost 90% of all games and we are sitting in the middle of the 2020 season. Started during OOTP11 in 2010. Love this game.

Started with OOTP 10, did an MLB quickstart, I'm not up to 2072. When I start with a new team, I manage somewhat closely setting lineups and so on, but once I get into the groove of a team, I really take a hands-off approach. For example, this morning, in maybe an hour and a half, I got through from the All-Star break until the end of the World Series.

Given where I am, I'll probably import it to 12, continue until I'm 100, and then start a new game after that.

I play every inning of every game and started with version 4 and the 2002 season. Getting close to completing 2021 now.

How are you playing your game? Every inning, every game? Sim some play some? Some other way?

every inning, every game - impressive

no I can't do that. I play out the "important" games - opening day, all star game, pennant race games, all playoff games. Also if something significant is happening a long hitting streak, a big milestone approaching or even something interesting like a hot prospect playing his first game.

I have tried to play out full seasons, but I never make it past 50 games or so

funny - a LONG time ago in I think 1988 a friend and I played the entire AL season on Earl Weaver and I mean entire, every inning for every team - there was no fast sim in those days. Hell we had just gotten a sim that would compile all of the stats.

Yeah, we're all different. I simply can't get into the game if I sim. I can't just look at the score and move on I have to examine the boxscore and maybe the log to see what I've missed. It probably takes me almost as long to examine the boxscore and log after a sim as it would to just play the game. Reading the log almost feels like work to me and while a glance over of the boxscore can give a lot of the story I just find myself wondering too much about how everything really unfolded.

So was it fun with Earl Weaver or, by the end, did it become a quest you had to complete?

It is impressive to see such long running leagues.. tells about the longevity of the game engine.

I've always restarted the same 100 setup. I've always figured that there would be some issues importing across and the new features won't have the right history. Have I missed a chance to see my league grow??

I'm not sure about 100 years.. in fact for me, this will be the first time I've ever imported from the previous version.

After having a league that ran 25 years, and went from ootp5 to ootp 9, get corrupted in a laptop crash (I had a back-up on a usb drive but decided it was time for a new league) I started a fictional league in 1940 with the premise that the major league went to 1 league of 8 teams. I eliminated multiple team cities so N.Y. only has the Yanks and Chicago has the Cubs etc. I have expanded 3 times and now in 1964 have 2 divisions of 7 teams each. Next season (#26) will break my record from the previous league. Best thing is I am starting to see HOF inductions now with some of the early players from 1940-42

I play out all my games except once in a while I will sim to the 6th and pick it up there or if one team is getting trampled I will sim to the end one inning at a time

The longest running for me is about 7 years. I always start new leagues. I do not keep them like most do. I mainly did online leagues from OOTP 7 until now.

almost from the beginning is was tedious but three factors kept us going

1. it was 1988 - the limitless list of entertainment options he have now did not exist. we rarely had an option of something better to do
2. we did it at work - we were both assistant managers at a movie theater so we had access to a PC and hours of down time
3. once we started we had to finish

I've never carried over to a new version. I play out the 1st game of every series. I usually get through 20 to 30 seasons. I think starting with OOTP12, I'll hold onto the league I create over multiple versions of OOTP.

I always restart a new league every time a new version pops up. I tried to import a league from v10 to v11 but couldn't get it to work right. v11 I had a fictional league I started in the 1950 season and was in 1989 when I lost my partition on the HD and lost it all, including the game. So as soon as I DL v12 I'll start the same fictional league with the same settings. Or a World League with 32 countries.

Yeah, IMHO you have. The only time there was an issue was when Markus did the complete rewrite going from OOTP 6.5 to the SI branded OOTP 2006. Even then one of the modders mad a utility that brought the players individual history into the new version.

There are no issues now, that I know of , where you lose anything on import nor do you miss out on any new features. Worst that happens is if you import, say in mid-season, is a new feature may not be fully functional until the beginning of the next season. If you import just after world series and before off season you should be good to go from day 1.

Being able to continue from version to version is the best feature of OOTP IMHO.

I am a pure simmer.. I sim each game daily (not weeks at a time).

But I started a league, I dunno, 2 or so months ago. It's easily around 2040 or so (starting from 2011).

Its fun to watch the stats grow..

Zack Grienke (my current manager) won around 350 games... I also have a starting pitcher I traded for (only 23 I think).. yeah, the last two seasons he went something like 28-0, and in september of the current year, he's around 25-0.. over 60 game undefeated streak. Very impressed with him

Edit * Rivas last 3 seasons
Angelo Rivas, now 25
1: 29-5, 3.15
2: 26-0, 1.77
3: 20-0, 3.66 *as of 08/17/2044

edit * wow shouldn't have posted that
now he's 22-1 3.69, 63 game undefeated streak over

I started my league in OOTP 8 by creating a historical league starting in 1969. I took over the Royals and play out every third game (and every playoff game).

My league is now up to mid-2009. KC has won 18 championships.

I'm very anxious for OOTP12 if for no other reason than OOTP11 doesn't have the 2010 season available for import.

Once I finish 2010 I plan to open up all the "evolving league" options and see what happens. Should be fun!

I sim out every inning of every game (excluding Spring Training) of my 120 game season. I started in 1955 and am currently in 1967. I started the league almost as soon as OOTP 11 came out and plan on carrying on as long as I can. So, 12 1/2 years of 120 game seasons, plus playoffs a few times...that's about 1500 games simmed out batter-by-batter in one calender year.

Pretty much any time I am watching sports on TV or doing homework/studying....I have OOTP open and am simulating.

Didn't someone try to simulate 1000 yeas once, but crash his computer?
