Injuries Suck

Led the Braves to the playoffs with 101 wins in 2013 against the Reds and squeeked by in 5. Tommy Hanson and Jair Jurrjens, my 1 and 2 pitchers get hurt during their outings. Next game against the Cards, Chipper Jones, Jason Heyward (who won the MVP) Martin Prado and Gordon Beckham get hurt IN THE SAME GAME forcing me to use an OF at 2B. Obviously I was down 3-0 but got it to 3-2 where in the last game Matt Kemp gets hurt. At least Jose Reyes didn't get hurt.

I had the best team by far in the playoffs with a 5* and 4 4* rotation and a 5* closer, setup man and lefty setup man.

I guess it was just destiny for me to lose. The injury bug really does suck.

There is no injury bug. The # of injuries in iOOTP is actually toned down from real life...

I don't mean a glitch. I mean the phrase "injury bug"

It is funny how often we get that (i)OOTP has to much injuries. For iOOTP we don't even use the MLB setting but a average setting with less injuries then in real life. Welcome to the world of a GM who has to deal with stuff like that (and is not able to "just start a new game").

I hate it, but I want it as real as possible!

Tell me about it. Last season my center fielder and best table-setter was out 3 different times (his injury history is "normal"). This season my #1 pitcher, in fact the #1 pitcher in the league got injured in his second game, out for nearly the entire season. Then my all-star 3rd basemen got injured, then my backup 3rd basemen, then my all-star 2nd basemen, and now my center-fielder is injured again. Arrrrggg! It's all my very best players, with the exception of the back-up 3B. I have my best 4 starters on the DL for over 2 months each.

I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to cut down on the injuries. I do have depth charts set for backups to play regularly, not just when the starter is tired. For most of the guys getting injured the back is only once every 7 or 10 games vs. either left or right-hand pitching.

A table setter is a person with a high On Base Percentage. There is no other requirement other than getting on base. This is usually a top of the lineup hitter, a one or two hole hitter. Where they are in the lineup depends on your philosophy. Some managers like speed, some like smart base runners and some like aggresive base runners. But really the speed thing doesn't matter. You can't steal first base.

Crawford is not really a great example. His .334 OBP is low for a tablesetter. Think along the lines of Tim Raines. His career OBP is .385 . He was over .400 five different times in his career and .390 or better 10 times. Rock was second only to Rickey Henderson for 20 yrs. BTW Henderson's career OBP is .401

I know the injury setting is below the MLB average but the season I'm having is ridiculous. Can't sim a week without it telling me someone new got hurt.

I know it is supposed to be even below MLB average, but it just isn't fun, whatever it is set at. I've resorted to just turning injuries off, which isn't fun either, but better than the alternative. Can we have a couple of injury settings?

It might be nice to have separate selectors for injury frequency and injury duration.

I get that it's part of the game and it seems fairly realistic, but it's enough to make me put the game down for a day or two when I have 4 or 5 injuries at the same time. I even go out of my way to select as many Durable players as possible and keep Fragile players to a minimum/non-critical roles.

I'm with you I'm taking a break after another foolish injury run and then I may wind up turning injuries off.

I think the injury settings are perfect. Perhaps the developers should increase the minor league roster size to compensate for the injuries.

Without injuries the game would be on auto pilot. Dealing with injuries is part of baseball and seperates the good from the mediocre.

Oh really? You mean.... You do what real life GMs do? Thats interesting. I'd figure most GMs would second guess signing a player with a high risk of injury.

I sometimes think people want a handout when it comes to this game

I love that the game is like this 'cause everyone (including myself) loves to play armchair GM, manager, etc.

I mean, if you get this upset about this many injuries... imagine what it would be like in real life.

Are injuries just randomized, or are they based on a players constitution and conditioning too? I have the same woes. I've had 7 major injuries in a season. The last one really hurt. 9 games to go to the season end. Playing the Mariners and 2 games ahead of Texas. POW! Felix Hernandez out with an oblique strain. O.k., Were talking about a guy whose played in 6 seasons, usually top, 'innings pitched' in the Majors. And at the top of my head I don't remember him ever out on extended injury. The guy is a horse! Yet...poor me
