Prizefighter (UK)
I just watched thsi event from the UK. From what I saw it was anm 8 amn tourney 3 rounds each including teh title and it made for an interesting final between Junior Whitter and El Maachi. Whitter charged in and fell out of the ring in the second round bounced right back up into the ring and kepot going. Maachi won 29-28x2 and 29-29.
Has anyone heard about this Prizefighter event? |

I have heard of it.... They just had Perez win the Heavyweight one. I think it's a great idea. Wish they would do it in the states, but the US fans are not nearly as passionate as the UK fans and it would not get as much attention as it would deserve.
I really wish they would do another contender series here in the US again. |

Yea another contender would be great and I got the two names wrong sorry its Junior Witter and Yassine El Maachi in the finals Macchi "beat" (it was a very conterversial win) Colin Lynes in the semi finals. What makes this different than the contender is that its all done in one night. I like the format for sure. According to teh website it can be view on a streaming basis....LIVEPRIZEFIGHTER.TV

It's been going a while over here now. Developed into a nice little contest - it began with Martin Rogan, who went on to challenge for and win the Commonwealth title. Other winners include;
Sam Sexton - challenged and won Commonwealth title against Rogan Michael Lomax - failed challenged for BBBofC title Martin Murray - Won Commonwealth title & current WBA Inter-Continental Tony Oakey - failed challenged for BBBofC title Those are the winners of the first five competitions; several other notable winners include; Audley Harrison - Went on to European title and failed challenge for WBA title Gavin Rees - Challenged and beat Andy Murray for European title. It has transformed into a real launching pad for the winner - a better mixture would be ideal - and the draws always seem to favour the "name" boxers. As for the semi-final between Lynes and El Maachi, I was at the event, and left towards the end of the second round - believing that Lynes would ultimately get the decision. So surprised when checked this morning to see El Maachi had won overall. Pleased though, put some money on El Maachi at 3/1. Seen final since, Witter didn't seem to turn up. Throughout I was fairly confident he would do enough against anybody in the tournament, main focus Lynes. Yet despite assuming a contest between the two would be a bore, it was interesting at least. A question for you stateside guys, are there any boxers over there that are boxing with *that* style, I can only liken it to a Naseem Hamed, on times Jones Jr. It seems that a large majority of boxers in Britain wishing to show their class, their skills, (their arrogance) take up this unorthodox style. |

Yassine El Maachi is one of the most unorthodox fighters i've seen. He's another guy that had bad promotion and no real backing and had to take tough fights before he was ready. His recent wins against Colas, Witter, and Lynes shows he can at least compete on the European level with a very outside shot of a world title.
That being said......I'd love to see another international "Prizefighter" heavyweight tournament. It actually got the biggest viewing audience out of all the "PF" tournaments so it was a successful venture. |
