Chipper won't go away!

Not that I want Larry Wayne to retire but he is pretty much useless at this point.

I took over the Braves to start the game and Chipper was decent.

2011 batting .247 with 107 hits and 20 homeruns.

2012 still chipper .254 102 hits and 16 hr..

2013 he is injured most of the season and plays in 65 games but bats .262 and getting almost as many walks as hits.

I figure okay the guy is old and had an injury time for him to retire, nope he comes back for his final contract year.

2014 he is on the bench and maintains good morale the whole season which shocks me. Only gets 30 at bats and 7 hits with a .233 avg.

He shocks me by asking for an extension!! I feel a little bit of nostalgia for a future hall of famer and give him a 2 year deal for 1mil a season.

2015 he starts in the minors, still maintaining good morale!! I have a string of injuries and instead of calling up a rookie who is 20/80 I call up good ol Larry Wayne at 20/80. He plays in 8 games getting 14 at bats and 2 hits batting a grand .143....

Time to retire right and forego that final season? Nope once again he comes back for his final contract year.

2016 he starts in the minors, still with good morale. Injuries once again force me to call him up. His first day back on the active roster, I get an email. He is going to retire is what I am thinking. No! He wants another two year extension! The guy is 44 years old, can barely get a hit and still wants to play, so I sign him for way more than he is worth just as an experiment at this point. He agrees to 2 years at 800k a year. The season just ended and here are the stats
Code:
G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K AVG
31 26 0 4 0 0 0 0 1 10 .154
I feel bad for the guy hasn't hit a HR in 4 years but he wants to play. His career .avg is still .300 thank goodness, 2728 hits and 472 HR.

I will just have to say, that I can't get players to do this in OOTP11 no matter how much I want them to. I have guys retiring with 2940 hits and crap at the age of 38 in that game. Whatever is going on iOOTP to cause this I love it!

The First Braves Commandment - Thou shalt not speak ill of #10
The Second Braves Commandment - Thou shalt not mention Hooters Restaurant...ever

Seriously, though, I haven't noticed this. I seem to have the opposite problem, which is to say that I have older (but still high performing) players who want to retire a few years before they should. What's more is I have veterans who I've just given relatively large contracts to who retire one season into the deal. What's up with that? You would think that if they accepted a five year deal, they'd stick around for a while...

Braves don't look to be that good this year, so letting Chipper start the season on the active roster

April

Chipper had a birthday and is now 45... statistically he has gone 1 for 9 with 1 walk and 3 strike outs. His .avg is .111

Maybe things will get better in May?

May

A rash of injuries saw Larry getting a ton of playing time.

Through this month his stats look like this.
Code:
G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K AVG
33 83 9 20 3 0 0 4 18 23 .241
Yeah it is only May but those are incredible stats for a guy that hasn't hit a double in the last 2 years

June

Another good month and Chipper hits his first HR in over 4 years.

Code:
G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K AVG
49 102 12 25 3 0 1 7 21 26 .245

July

Oh no, Larry is now unhappy. He wasn't played much in July, and the team is in 4th place.

Code:
G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K AVG
57 110 12 26 3 0 1 7 21 31 .236
August

Larry is still pretty unhappy, mostly with the performance of the team.

Code:
G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K AVG
66 114 12 26 3 0 1 8 24 33 .228

Eye never really fades in OOTP (much like in real life). I assume he is still as good at taking walks as ever.

Keep signing him for just over the ML minimum and make him the next Julio Franco.

Do you know what his ratings were when he retired or what his last season was stats wise.

Okay, I am kinda pissed.

It appears that Chipper is gone. I got no email stating he retired, he isn't in the HOF and I can't find him in player search.

I can only assume he is retired. I was expecting an email or something.

I can't even post his final stats since he is just gone *poof*, I won't complain since this is an iphone game and don't expect it to save all retired players. Just wish I would have gotten an email about his retirement.

Have you completed the season and rolled onto the next? I would think with those numbers, he would be in the HoF. It could be that you have not advanced far enough for him to be in the HoF...?

I did go into the next season and he still isn't in the HOF. The only thing I can think is that as he played all those extra years his BA dropped below .300 it was around .298

I don't know what iOOTP sets as the minimum for HOF induction but I would think he would be there.

That was a hilarious thread. Chipper did the Brett Favre and didn't know when to hang em up.

That is disappointing. Would have been nice to see him in the HoF. Hopefully palli can chime in and take a look at it. Not sure if anything can be done for Chipper, but would be nice not to see it happen again.

yeah, this happened to me with strasburg, but he has only 23 when it happened, i accidently released him as the nationals and ended up trying to get him back with free agency... but he suddenly dissapeared without warning.

I've had players with 281 average 2800 hits and 440 hrs make the hall before, i think the game just made him disappear, those are definitely HOF worthy numbers
