The Baseball Chronicle - Fictional Players in a Historical Setting

The Baseball Chronicle which began as a dynasty covering the years 1871-91 went live as an OOTP 9 online league for the 1892 season. The league converted to OOTP 10 for the 1904 season and to OOTP 11 for the 1917 season. The league is a fast-paced thrill ride across baseball history and has now completed 25 seasons as an online league and 1920 will mark the 50th season of TBC!

GMs (and non-GM followers of the leagues) are encouraged to create their own players (either "ancestors" or simply made-up guys) through this thread on the Dynasty Forum.

Using kq76's recommendations, here are the cogent points in list form:

Full League Name (Initials): The Baseball Chronicle (TBC)
Main URL: The Baseball Chronicle :: Home
Reports URL: BNN Home Page
Boards URL: The Baseball Chronicle :: Home
Commissioner(s) OOTP Forum Username(s): legendsport
Email Address: commish@legendsport.com
OOTP Version: 11
Game Needed: Required
Players: Fictional players in Historical setting
# of Teams: 16 (will expand based on MLB History)
Export Deadlines Days And Times: Monday thru Saturday 6am ET
League Time Per Sim: 1/2 month (15 or 16 days per sim)
First Season: 1871 (as dynasty), 1892 (as online league)
Latest Season: 1920
Special Rules & Settings: This is a talent-only league. Coaches are on, scouts are off. We'll attempt to mimic the Reserve Clause era with financials on, no free agency, no rookie draft. The upper tier of Minor League baseball will be simmed and teams will procure players through purchasing them from the minors (as the real teams did) or occasionally thru free agency. The Negro Leagues will also be simmed alongside when we reach 1920. The commissioner will handle the minor league teams, the Negro League teams will likely have human GMs.
Currently Available Teams:
MLB: Cubs, Indians, Yankees, Browns
NeL: To be determined

The Baseball Chronicle will attempt to model, as closely as possible, real baseball history with fictional players. We use special rules for player procurement and will include things such as the Federal League, the World Wars, the Negro Leagues and the gradual development of the farm system in our march through history.

TBC is an homage not only to great OOTP 6.5 leagues such as Time Warp Baseball and PBRL, but also to baseball history itself. Who will be TBC's "Babe Ruth" or "Ted Williams?" Join in and find out, it's going to be a great ride.

About the TBC Commissioner:
The commish has years of experience running OOTP leagues going back to OOTP 2 the most successful of which was Greatest Generation Baseball which ran for 20 seasons, covering versions 4 thru 6.5 of the sim. Other long-running leagues included the 20th Century Chronicle, a season-per-week league that ran the 1901-2000 seasons and BaTTY which was similar to 20CC but scrambled debut dates. All three were long-running, successful leagues and some of the GMs from those leagues (as well as some TWB & PBRL vets) are signed on for TBC.

Bumping for new openings - also the Negro Leagues are debuting, if anyone has interest in running one of those teams, let me know. GMs may run teams in both MLB and Negro Leagues, either or both of them, as they wish.

The TBC went through a re-boot, but we're up & running for the 1921 season and have one opening - the Chicago White Sox.

This is an interesting team with the league's best home run hitter, the Babe Ruth-esque Jake Waite as well as one of the league's top hitters for average. If a GM can sign on and find some pitching, this club could be championship caliber.

TBC has a few openings as we start the 1924 season. If you're looking for a league with plenty of history (54 seasons worth, to be exact), great GMs and a classic historical feel with a twist (fictional players), look no further: TBC needs you!

Current openings are:

Boston Red Sox featuring the league's top young hitter in Clarence "Pow Wow" Rowell as well as hit machine Honus Schultz. Find this team some pitching and watch out!

New York Yankees featuring the Ty Cobb-esque Charlie Shanafelt (38 y/o with 3700 hits and a lifetime .355 average), the Babe Ruth-like Dolph Dietrich (who hit 54 bombs as a rookie after coming over from the PCL in '23) who lead a juggernaut-like offense.

St. Louis Browns not much to say about this team, they're mediocre but if you're looking for a challenge with a team that has some young building blocks in the system, this would be a good fit. They have a very talented CF prospect in Ben Cranberry, a top young SS in Clem Jarvis and some young & promising arms just a touch away from being big league contributors.

Hey can I get the Yanks? I've been following your site for awhile and love how you have played out MLB history from a fictional perspective. I'll register at the site.

I'm pretty sure he was created by the game and I edited his name (and nickname).

The Yanks have been filled, but the Red Sox and Browns are still available.

OK, the Red Sox have been claimed as well. That leaves the Browns available. We'll be wrapping up the 1924 season here this week, so get in now to take charge before the draft.

Hey legendsport, I'd love to run a team as soon as you have one available. Are the St. Louis Brown's still open?

The Browns are indeed available. First step would be to sign up over on the TBC site. Once you've done that, I'll send you setup instructions.
