Bidding wars in trades

If I'm offering, say... a KRod, or a Reyes, to the Red Sox, and it's a tight AL East race, the Yankees should get wind of that and come back and throw a better package at me to try and sway discussions.

Something like that. Or competing teams should bid against one another for players. It happens IRL a lot.

This would be cool, but I question the last sentence. I'm guessing this happens a lot in New York and Boston, but most everywhere else can't afford a bidding war just to keep a player off another team.
