Customizable Stats

I would love to be able to create my own statistics that I could then add to the player screens or sortable statistic screens.

I have a couple I made up way back in the days of Earl Weaver Baseball that I used to calculate and track on paper when I was a kid. Being able to put them in OOTP would be great. The custom statistics would need to use statistics already tracked by the game (both individual player and team) manipulated using basic math functions.

If would be great if this found its way into an upcoming version.

I asked for a very similar thing way back when OOTP merged with SI and the rewrite was going on. I think it would be very cool to have user-defined stats that calculate from the regular stats. I'd imagine that they couldn't be amazingly complex, if they're even realistic at all, but it would be interesting to see what people came up with.

I'd think it would be scary.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

The old Front Page Sports Football had this feature, it was an open ended editor that let you create a stat using any of the game generated stats, as well as dimensionless numbers. Maybe this was implemented because QB rating is sort of a strange stat that isn't a simple calculation of raw stats. I'd love to see this in OOTP.

Thumbs up

In a world where Sabermetrics is becoming more and more reliable (a lot less Pitching W/L and fielding E) this would be a feature where I would probably lose my job, my wife, and probably starve myself trying to find the next big stat. I could understand where primary stats could not be customized, but secondary stats seems like they could be something that could be changed in either the client itself or in some kind of .txt file; or can the latter be done already and I have just missed it?

Actually the NFL QB rating is a calculation of raw stats. It's complicated yes but can be figured out by the average person. I used to have it saved on my High School scientific calculator where all you had to do was input Attempts, Completions, TD, Int and Yards and it would crank it out.

The college QB rating is a little different and "loose" hence the drastically different numbers. I don't have that formula but I believe main difference is in what college considers a run/sack compared to the pros so the different system.

Passer rating - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Other that that, I think a custumizable stat field would be good or even one for ratings. I'd like one for player value that I can base on what I'm looking for. I could set it up for a Power/Speed comparison (stats or ratings).

I personally can't stand alot of the new stats people come up with like sabermetrics as I feel alot are designed based with a result they want and then create the formula to prove it.

It's like the old arbitration story of Bob Stanley in the 1980s. Stanley's side appeared and claimed to the judge "We have statistics her to show Bob Stanley was one of the top 5 pitchers in the American League"... to this the Red Sox responded "Well, we have statistics to show he wasn't even one of the top 5 pitchers on the team".

Having this feature in-game would be interesting, although it's worth pointing out that you can already do this outside of the game using a CSV or database dump.
