Stupid AI minor league rosters?
Hi, just wondering if there's any way of fixing stupid minor league rosters on AI controlled teams.
As it is I look at the affiliates of the other teams in the league and most have ridiculous player compositions. IE, a AA affiliate composed entirely of pitchers and infielders (including seven -count 'em- catchers), with a single-A affiliate composed entirely of outfielders and one lone pitcher. The AI seems to have zero idea how to balance its minor-league rosters, despite the fact that the ML level teams are fine and have normal player ratios. What gives? I am not optimistic about someone providing a quick fix but I needed to vent. This kind of annoys me. |

How many levels of minors do u have? with some of my various leagues my lowest level is always out of wack. But thats why many people have come to deal with managing the minors themselves......for one of my leagues at A I went out and signed some scrubs to minor league deals just so i didnt have a C at 2B.

Do you have enough players? The AI can only populate with available players.
How many teams in your Major leagues? How many minor league levels? How many rounds in the draft? How many rounds do you generate players for? This makes a difference as it generates sufficient FA to populate any low minors you may have. I have a 15 round draft but generate players for 25 rounds. Right now on Feb 15 2036 I have 1253 FA. Most of these are non-entities but it ensures that a position player or pitcher will be found if needed by the AI. I keep my lowest minor league rosters unlimited. Sometimes there are 40-45 players on the roster, many who don't play. However if injuries decimate the higher levels at least warm bodies are available. YMMV

At what point of the respective league's seasons are you observing this mix? Is it smack dab in the middle of a season, or is it offseason?

Middle of the season, right after the draft. Some minor league pitchers have been playing outfield for 30+ games.
![]() The rosters are messed up at the lower levels (AAA and ML are fine). My system is fine, since I micromanage the minors. It's only the AI who have this problem. The teams definetly have enough players to have balanced rosters (40 player max at lowest level - and all are filled to the max). It's just that they seem to like putting all of their outfielders on one team and all of their infielders on another (for example). I have a 16 round draft, with an average of about 50 to 100 FA at any time. EDIT: Come to think of it, it may be the draft that's the issue. Before the draft (at the beginning of the season) the rosters are a bit more reasonable, but due to the influx of draftees mid-season it unbalanced them. I may try putting the draft in the offseason (as in most other sports) and see if it makes any difference. Since this is a fictional league it wouldn't break immersion.
