Alternate 1961 Expansion Story Dynasty
This dynasty is the brainchild of me thinking about the Cleveland Browns relocation controversy back in the 1990s.
The idea around this new franchise is what if the Giants were sued when they relocated to California, and the court gave the rights of the franchise name to New York City?
Here is the backstory:
In 1958 the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Giants found themselves under fire from the New York government, who sued the two teams for rights to the franchises. The case would battle up to the Supreme court until 1960, who would rule in favor of the City of New York, and ordered the two franchises to rebrand themselves. However, before the final ruling, a new twist arose. The Los Angeles Angels, were coming to the American League, and the Dodgers were planning on renaming themselves the Los Angeles Angels. The Dodgers were then allowed to keep the Dodger namesake, but since there was no franchise set for San Francisco, the Giants were not.
The Giants renamed themselves the Seals, and the court further ruled that teams who relocate after the 1961 season are to rebrand.
We pick up at the beginning of the 1961 season.
