MLB fans - help me out!

I am in a fictional MLB league where we are allowed to select three real-life MLB players for our teams who will be imported into the game as 24-year-olds at their maximum potential.

These players can be from any era EXCEPT for current players and EXCEPT for Hall of Famers.

I don't want to miss anyone, so my question is .. In your opinion who are some of the best MLBers of all time who are now retired but were never in the Hall of Fame?

And more specifically, who have good potential rankings when imported into OOTP as well?

Thanks.

What do you mean max potential?

Dwight Gooden would have had off the charts potential at one time. Edgar Martinez was a flat out great hitter if you are using a DH. Mike Piazza was probably the greatest hitting catcher of All time and I dont believe he is HOF eligible yet.

Max potential as in, whatever their OOTP potential ratings are in game, their actual ratings in game will be changed to that.

Barry Bonds should definetly be on your list. He is the greatest hitter of all-time.

Yep, I would pick some guys like this, stars that just didn't have the staying power to get HOF career numbers. Bret Saberhagen is another example.

Another way to think is to find all-star players from bad teams - these types usually didn't garner enough attention to get in the HOF. Blyleven and Tommy John kind of apply here.

If I were doing this, I'd find the best three players in the history of my favorite team not in the HOF. Might be hard if you like Yankees, but otherwise there are plenty of choices.

Or players that had really really good seasons and import from that season.

Like Brady Anderson in his 50 homerun season.

Well I made my first selection and didn't take anyone yet suggested here. I grabbed Greg Maddux with the second overall pick. I still think that's a solid selection despite no one mentioning him, no?

I was looking to stock up on arms... Here is how the draft has gone so far:

Pete Rose
Greg Maddux - me.
Barry Bonds
Ken Griffey Jr.
Dwight Gooden
Joe Jackson
Roberto Alomar
Roger Clemens

Another 10 picks before it gets back to me so the field could be thinned considerably by that point.

Thoughts?

If you're looking for arms, how about Pedro Martinez?

Sadly has already been taken, as has my other hopeful second pitcher Randy Johnson.

Time to start digging a little deeper to find my number 2

Barry Bonds going #3 was a steal.

Id take Piazza next if he was there. No other catcher came close to his career hitting numbers.
