Computer not spending money?

Hey, I'm running a 20 team fictional league, and it's in it's 11th season... I don't know what it is, but the team I control always seems to spend a lot of money on payroll. In fact, my payroll is often 10 million dollars more than the next closest team... So last season I decided to put in a salary cap of 70 million dollars, but still the computer doesn't seem to be spending very much money on payroll. I suppose this is a good thing, because they will make more money, but it seems that I spend an unusual amount more money then all the computers teams...

I mean, my payroll is about 69.5 million, and the next closest is in the 50's, all the way down through, with a lot in the 40's and 30's and one team only has a payroll of 11 million.

So is there a reason the computer isn't spending a lot of money? They do have money to spend, as most of the teams were left with 20-40 million dollars after free agency. It's not like the other teams aren't competitive, I just think it would make sense for them to spend a little more money to try and rake in some top of the line FA's... So, is it normal for the CPU teams to spend so much less money then I am?

With a smaller league I think it can tend to be that way.

In my league which is using the standard MLB setup, we are in the 14th season and Texas is spending 93 million on payroll(no-arod).

My team is 5th or sixth in payroll at 73 million if memory is right.

In my league, I try to keep my payroll around 50-55 mil and I am always in the lower half of all payrolls.

Ripwalk,
I have noticed the exact same problem. I have simmed about 20 seasons in a 14 team league. I bumped the max cash reserves up and teams will just let them build. Some of the teams are up to 400 million cash. Then a great free agent comes by and no bidding wars start. The AI controlled teams seem to reluctant to spend more when they are wealthy in the bank.

I am just wondering what patch you are using? I have noticed in one of the patches recently (4.2 I believe) made the computer controlled teams more active during FA.

I am running v 4.2 as far as I know... So I don't think that's the problem ...

Would it maybe be safe to say that some of the teams who have lower payrolls are rebuilding, and therefore have a lot more youngsters with minor league contracts or 100,00 contracts?

I've re-evaluated the situation, and I don't think it's that big of an issue ... I mean, I have two good young pitchers on my team, one signed for 11 million and one for 7, so the substantial difference I'm noticing is basically because of those two big salaries.
