No owner

I am playing a historical game that I imported from X. It's 1998 and I created a human GM to take over the expansion Diamondbacks. Everything seems great except that the D-backs and D-Rays don't have owners. Can one be created? Will he just appear at some point? It's Spring Training now and still nothing (thought he might show up in the pre-season).

Any idea why this is happening?

Bump.

I opened a ticket on this with Tech Support, but I find it hard to believe that this wasn't seen by someone else by now.

Does anyone know how to add an owner to a team? I see how to edit them once they own a team, but not how to create them or get the team to have one.

Thanks.

I took over the Mariners when they were brought into the league and there also was no owner. There was, however, an Owner Expectation emailed to me.

I'd believe this during the George Argyros years...

Yep. My "owner's" opinion on our positional strengths and weaknesses was listed on the Manager home page even as the box at the bottom said "No owner!" (Maybe I should pretend that the league owns the team like what happened with the Expos)

Really, no one knows how to create and add an owner?!?

Can you go into Commissioner mode and goto "Edit Financials" on your Front Office page. Can you do it there? I know you can edit an owner there.

Wow. I'm having the same problem too..... No owners in a fictional league I created. But the other two leagues have owners, one doesn't. There's no space in the "Options and Ballpark" tab for the owners, even if I get there from the "Edit Financials" button. I like seeing the owners, it adds a nice touch, plus it gives me names for my stadiums, (ie: "Owner_Surname Stadium) so I'd like if someone could tell us how to fix this problem or create missing owners.

EDIT: I tried to create fictional personnel, but could only create a GM, Manager, PC,...you get the idea, everything but an owner. Surely, this should be addressed, no?

You can edit the owner if he exists, but I see no way to create one or to get the team to acquire one (I guess it would really be the other way around). It just says "no owner" and that seems to be that.

I hope this gets fixed. I'll update if I hear anything from tech support.

I started another league (finally had time to do one that took lots of set up -- 19th century, real players, fictional teams) and again, no owners. This time, all of the teams have no owners. Not for any of the teams this time.

I manage two teams, one in each sub-league, and I got the "Season Expectations" email, but that's it.

I'm disappointed partly because I really like the owner with a face and mood feature.

(BTW, I know that my bug report is logged, but I haven't heard anything about it. Anyone in the know have any update on this? Thanks.)

Nope, no can do. It gives the option to change fan interest and, of course, the dollar amounts available, but nothing that allows an owner to be created.

(In another league--that has owners--it does allow them to be edited, btw.)

Fix Please!

Are the programmers going to ever fix this issue where teams don't have owners? I've had this happen in all types of leagues. Sometimes it's not all teams

Are you playing the Montreal Expos just before the move to Washington?

I usually try 1871 White Stockings and set the lineups for several of the other teams with the proper lineups from the 1871 teams like NY Mutuals, Washington Olympics, Rockford Forest Citys and such. I just keep whatever team name the game gave it and then use baseball-reference.com to get the right guys. The problem is that half the time there are too many teams without the owners. Not a real problem as long as White Stockings have one but still a pain since I like to try the harder Cubs years like 1947 or mid 50's when in real long slumps.

I started a league and took over the Houston Colt 45's in their inaugural season of 1962. There was no owner, as there never is when taking over a team in their first year. The team did have an expectation of playing .500 ball.. team ran about 20 games under .500 and I was fired* by mid season.

This was the first time I have ever unchecked "cannot be fired", as I like to take a new or lousy team and build them into a champion over time. But, I thought I might be missing out on an aspect of the game. The following season, the teams physical owner appeared, with the demanding attitude that was exhibited in the first season. I went back to enabling "cannot be fired", and Houston re-hired** me

Some questions:

*1) I thought I could recall on previous versions of the game, a GM would be warned that they could be fired if the teams performance continues as it is or worsens.. are there now no warnings before termination?

**2) Will there ever be some sort of evaluation (interview so to speak) when "applying" to be a GM with a team? Otherwise its not really "applying" at all. Any team will take any GM that signs up.

3) ...and this whole no owner in the first season thing, will it be addressed?

I agree that this is a bug (or a REALLY bad design decision), and it shouldn't happen anywhere near as often as it appears to, but the late period Expos aren't the only example of this from real life. The Rangers have been an unowned team for about a year now (hopefully that will end next month), and the Dodgers have been effectively without ownership since around Christmas (that might continue for some time). I'm sure there must have been teams in receivership at various times in the past.

Still, this should be a fairly rare exception.
