Made a mistake with my rookie pitcher...

My 20 year old SP in one of my leagues was dominating rookie league after 55 innings so I promoted him... to Short Season A... problem was... I forgot that S A ends early instead, I thought it just started early... so after 2 weeks, I realized that he wasn't pitching atall so I didn't want him to be angry so I promoted him to Single A so he could get some work in. After two starts, he pitched 3.0 innings (yes overall, not 3 IP each) and gave up 13 H , 13 ER and walked 5 and K'd 0. That is how he ended the season because the Single-A season just ended... did I just ruin my prospect or was that just him brushing the rust off after not pitching in nearly 2 weeks? He didn't get any rating losses (that I know of)... but I'm just worried I ruined this kid just because he was my first round pick.

I wouldnt worry that he is ruined. I really dont start worrying till they make AA anyway. The number of vets signed to huge contracts who lose skills that are playing in the low minors make some of those stats next to worthless IMO.

Besides if he was my 1st rd pick he would have had a CEI by now, so you can always comfort yourself with that.

Nah, if you really wanted to improve him you'd have promoted him to the majors and have him start until he pitched a good game and then demote him back to rookie league.

I cant get pitchers to develop in OOTP and I try to do the stable one level at a time. WHile I've seen AI pitchers pitch 3 games at AAA, then 4 in the majors, then 2 at AA, then 3 in the majors, then 2 in AAA, then 1 in the majors then back to AA for the rest of the season. ANd they develop? Yep.

Try this (100 pt rating scale

If two of three ratings (mov, cont, stuff) are at least 35 and the third rating close to 20 or higher, promote from R to A

two ratings 41 or better promote to AA

two ratings 50 or better with third rating in the 30's promote to AAA
All 3 ratings in the 40's promote to AAA

Ignore the stats they don't matter. Just promote on ratings. Also SP's need at least 3 pitches but can start with stamina in the high 20's

Again this is using 100pt rating scale. I only care about Movement, control, and stuff. I've been promoting like this for many versions of OOTP, and it works extremely well for me.

Oh, when you draft pay attention to intelligence and work ethic. The higher the better. 1st round draft picks who are lazy and ******ed have a way of crapping out.

Or if you want to go back further the Atlanta Braves approach with Bruce Chen.
