Has anyone noticed that AI pitchers throw more pitches before getting tired?
I have a related post about this in the main forum: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ing-right.html, but I thought there might be a different crowd over here, and maybe this is limited to historical leagues.
I play out all my games and noticed that the AI starters were throwing more pitches than my starters were in general. I have a pitcher who is a 206/250 stamina. He was tiring at about 125 pitches. I noticed an AI starter who threw 135+ pitches before getting tired with a stamina of 147/250. There have been many times where AI pitchers of lesser stamina have thrown 135+ pitches before tiring (status changes from OK to tired). I made sure my 206 stamina starting pitcher was rested for 10 days and tested his pitch count. He tired again at about 125. These are the actual stamina ratings I looked at in the editor. I do not use coaching, so pitching coaches are not the culprit. It seems like there is a bug to me and opened a ticket. Has anyone seen this behavior before? Anyone know why this may be? It just doesn't seem right that the AI starting pitchers with substantially less stamina throw more pitches before tiring. |

For now I don't get to play as many games as I would like but I'll keep an eye out for this. I certainly haven't noticed it off the cuff though.

Thanks. Of course it doesn't happen every game, but many times the AI will leave the starter in. With my setup all my pitchers tire by 125 pitches, but the AI pitchers go longer even with lower stamina. It seems to take longer for his status to turn to tired from OK once his mph drops below his expected range.

I haven't noticed this per se. I play out all my games, too, for the most part.
One question, have you looked to see how many pitches they threw last time out? How many days rest they've had? |

Thanks for your suggestion. Yes, I have looked at those factors. I also did a test where I made sure my pitcher and the AI pitcher didn't throw for 10 days, so they could definitely throw their max allowed. The AI pitcher still threw more before his status went from OK to Tired.

I've actually wondered about that and after checking more closely I've noticed that my 111 stamina pitcher can throw anywhere from 130-170 pitches before getting tired. I think it depends on the types of pitches and the velocity of pitches. I've seen my guy get tired at 130 pitches but he was throwing 94-95mph and rated at 89-90mph. The game was fairly close also(less than 10 run lead). The next game he seemed to not be pushing hard since I had like a 30 run lead by the 5th inning and he finished the game with 175 pitches and just starting to get tired when I visited mound in 9th. The final score of that one was 56-5 with a total of only 39 hits but there were 28 total errors and I didn't count the passed balls by the opposing team but it was astronomical. I had players take the plate 10 times almost all the way through. Each of their pitchers and the fielders that pitched were toast forever before the AI would remove them since I was murdering them.

followup
I've played some more games for fun in several different leagues and noticed that the pitch count until exhausted definitely corresponds to the speed of the pitches and also has something to do with how long they sit on the bench in between innings. I've noticed that when I'm losing that my pitcher will throw 3-4mph faster on 2 strikes and try for the whiff but he tires about 20 pitches earlier if he needs to keep that up for too long. In a game where my pitcher(111 End) pitched 185 pitches before exhausted I was in the lead from the opening. Had large lead all the way and he pitched changeups and curves on last pitches since he could afford the chance of hits. Kind of neat to me that the pitcher takes that into consideration. I hardly let them get to that point personally. I get to the point they say getting tired and if game is close I pull even when playing 19th century.
