Help getting started
Hello all you modders. I'm looking to start making logos, uniform, and ball caps. I've never done anything like this and have no idea how to get started.
Does anyone have the patience to walk me through what programs to use and how to use them and getting them into the right format for OOTP. I'm looking to make NCAA logos that are similiar to the MLB ones in the All in one pack. (the circular style) From there I'll start working on making all the Jerseys and ballcaps. I have 108 college teams to do this for and 84 High School teams. Anyone willing to help me get started would be much appreciated. |

Not sure how much help this will be, but try Padresfan Mods website, select OOTP, then Facegen (trust me...), and look down near the bottom of the page under "Other Files". There's some tutorials and templates there for logos that may be of assistance.
I'm sure plenty of others will chime in with advice. |

The learning curve is long, but rewarding and fun...as you see your creations come to life in the game.
Pouring over the forums here is the best way to get inspiration and ideas on where to start. It is really hard to sum it up because everyone has different abilities, talents and backgrounds when it comes to diving into this stuff. Set aside an hour or two just to read threads in the mod forum and do searches and read those threads. There's thousands of hidden gems out there. Its all about combining your own imagination with the tools available....and LOTS of practice. Some good free programs to explore are inkscape, gimp, and paint.net Inkscape = free Corel with less power Gimp & paint.net = free Photoshop with less power Paint.net is a good starting point cause it can do everything you need as a starter, is very similar in layout to Photoshop...and is not overly complex. Gimp is a bit more robust and complex, but not quite as user friendly or easy to navigate. (not to say its not easy in the hands of somebody who knows their way around)

It looks like a bevel with a solid colored stroke border around the circular cut of the original graphic. And he added the pinstrips maybe as an overlay?
Without knowing what bevel settings, in what program (probably photoshop) they used it would be hard to replicate without spending a lot of time messing with the bevel filter. Hopefully you can find someone that knows what settings they used or the original creator will help you. Or you can 1. learn how to add stroke to a layer (not hard once you learn it in photoshop and I think gimp can do that)... and 2. play with the bevel filter on the layer until you can get the glossy shadows, ridges and contour to look like what they have there. (or get them to tell you what program they used and the exact settings...its just a bunch of numbers entered into a filter tool) OR 1. Get somebody here who is a master at making bevels (not me) to replicate it as close to what they see here. Anyone can make a cool looking bevel by playing around with it but its harder to replicate and existing "look" without knowing how it was set up. OR The original creator of this look takes 3 minutes per logo of his own time to create the logos you want converted with the settings and methods he used to make the first one.

It also has some kind of sunburst gradient added to the background of the main image. Its a pretty complex series of filters applied to the original image.
Best option is to get the original guy's help or find a photoshop guru. |

I had good success with the freely downloadable Paint.net which, along with Photoshop & others, allows 'layered' graphics. Layered graphics are very easy to use and can greatly increase the quality of your designs.
For my designs I developed some useful techniques which I posted and summarized in the link below. Check out the link-list in the 2nd post in the following thread (though I encourage to read the entire thread to see how well someone in a similar position to you fared)... http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...-uniforms.html To see if you'd be interested in these techniques, I'll include a small sample of what kind of uniforms you can design.
