Hello fellow OOTP'ers,

Upon the release of OOTPX, I did something that I had been contemplating for a long time, I started up a new OOTP league. Things have gone relatively smoothly with the startup of the league and we've still got a full league of active, enthusiastic GM's and I think the league is off to a great start, but I definitely want to make the rest of the OOTP Community aware of our existence. As I said, the league is full right now so I can't offer open teams but I can offer up to you why I think this league is going to be successful and I can hope that someday one of you reading this will be a part of the league.

As stated above, the iMLB is a real roster league that will use fictional draft classes moving forward. Leagues with this setup can be very volitile because a lot of GM's that join these at startup just want to take their favorite team and build them into a contender as soon as possible, no matter what. The problem comes when a lot of the household names start to filter out of the league and you're left with a bunch of fictional guys that some GM's don't care about. Now, I'm a longtime fictional player as well, so I develop an attachment to the fictional players and they become just as real to me as the "real players" but I know that not every GM will be like that. There's no easy fix, but part of what the iMLB is going to do is allow each team to rename two draft picks each year. It might be your name, your best friend, your dog's name or just something crazy you thought up but in any case, it is a player that you will become attached to. I feel that this nips the previously mentioned problem in the butt before it begins. Maybe I'm naive but I believe that the real rosters + fictional draftees + rename a player option will net big returns in the long run and reward our league with committed GM's that are more attached to their teams than ever.

Another reason that I think this league will work is because I've been around the block a few times when it comes to OOTP. My first run at Commissioner was using the buggy OOTP2006 that had a whole lot of problems. My league used the same real rosters, fictional draftees setup that the iMLB uses, however we did not allow the renaming of players. Looking back, I wish I would have done it because I think the league would have lasted much longer than the 6 years it lasted. Our biggest problem was the guys that had no interest in fictional players; again, hopefully that problem has been contained by the renaming option.

I've also been in numerous of the best run (World Baseball Hierarchy) and worst run (will not mention) leagues that the OOTP Community has to offer. I know what it is like to be a GM in a league and I think that makes me a much better Commissioner than someone who is out of touch with what it's like to run a team in someone elses league. The most important thing I've learned is that communication is one of key pieces of a successful league and a good Commissioner. I try to communicate as much as I can with my GM's. I've even set up a Twitter account just for the iMLB because trust me, I would never use that thing otherwise.

One of the last things I would like to touch on is our Contribution Points system that is in the works. While you can find the ways to earn Contribution Points within the Rules Document, I am still working hard on the actual system for using them. Part of the reason it is taking so long is I want to make sure it is just right before it is released and I have been getting input from numerous GM's of different activity levels on the CP System. I think it's important to have a system like this because people will always "contribute" more articles, make more exports, post more on the forums, etc. if they are given incentive to do so. However, I don't want the people with the highest activity levels to take over the league just because they have more time to devote to it. That is NOT how this system will work and actually, player improvements will be a very minimal component if they are included in the CP Rewards.

Before I sign off on this "Press Release" ... I'll say that we welcome both OOTP Veterans and Newbies to the OOTP Software. We have our share of both as current members of the league and everyone seems to be meshing together quite well. If this league sounds like one that you would want to be a part of, then by all means, Join Our Wait List!

Thanks for your time guys,

Bobby Fuhrman

Great league. I'm currently the Orioles GM. Very active, and the community the forums is part of is pretty awesome too.

Just wanted to note a couple things to let you guys know what has been going on with the iMLB lately....

1. Congrats to the Milwaukee Brewers for winning the first ever iMLB World Series!

2. We just had a "perfect" sim. 30/30 on Exports! That makes a Commish very happy.

3. We let the game handle its own award voting and those are the AP Awards, but the real big time awards are being voted on now. Ryan Howard leads the way for Batter of the Year, with Johnny Cueto leading for Pitcher of the Year. The Rookie of the Year, GM of the Year, Most Improved Team, and Most Dedicated GM Awards are very much up in the air.

4. Norichika Aoki is defecting to the iMLB. It will cost teams $2 million to "scout" him and the Commish will send them a full ratings report. After that it costs $4 million to place a bid - highest bid gets him!

5. The deepening recession is projected to hit the iMLB next year as economists have predicted a 5-10% decrease in attendance if teams maintain their current ticket prices.

Just wanted to bump this since I updated some things on the first post (Forum Address and current sim year). We don't currently have an openings still, but it doesn't hurt to give our league some press anyway as I'm very proud of what it has become.

Some new things to note about the league....

1. Past World Series Champs - 2009 Brewers, 2010 Twins, 2011 Dodgers

2. Our own Podcast - see the link on the HomePage

3. Twitter Feed to keep everyone up to date on things that don't require a league wide email.

4. We have about 20 of our initial 30 GM's that signed up the first day I announced this league on the Forums. We had the normal turnover in Year 1, but not very much at all since then. All of our openings so far have been filled by referrals, but that doesn't mean they always will be.

5. One of the big Features of OOTP 11 is Draftee signing bonuses, which isn't as big of a deal for our league, as we already have signing bonuses for draftees.

Even if you're not interested, take a look around and maybe get some ideas for your own league.

which teams are open? I'm in one league that is a dud with zero gm interaction, so I'm interested in finding one that doesn't resemble a solo league

Hey iMLB Tigers GM here. I think the open teams are Was, Philly, ChiSox, Balt, LAN, and Col.

Ive been playing ootp for 3 yrs or so and this lg is awsome. We have a great group of core GMs and the forums are active. Newbies and Vets should all take a long hard look at this one.

p.s. It sadly took me 3 months of waiting to get in! Was well worth the wait.

San Diego is not open. LA Dodgers and Colorado are i believe.

Also, I concur. Great league with lots of interaction, trading and banter.

I am one of the founding GM's and have found myself dropping other leagues for iMLB. Good core of active GM's and even through the bumps, we still come through strong.

Heres a little info on the open teams.

Was - ( 32-64 ) They have the 27th ranked minor lg system, but just seleted SP Jon Brooks in our draft so im sure he'll bump the system up next season. Will be more of a rebuilding project, but in a lg where seasons go by quickly you could be the GM to build a winner in Was.

Philly - ( 32-65 ) They have the 25th ranked minor lg system, but have 3 youngsters in the top 100 prospects which should push that ranking up rather quickly. Will be a rebuilding project here as well, but with a move or two and a strong system I'd guess that turn around will happen soon.

ChiSox - ( 42-52 ) The white sox have been a force in the AL Central since the lg started. They find themselves below .500 now becuase of the hot starts this season in Clev and Det. The last GM used a rich farm system to trade and give himself a strong shot at making the WS so the system is the weakest of the lg but the overall roster is very strong.

Balt - ( 51-46 ) This team is holding their own in 2nd place in a tough AL East. With money, talent, and the 21st ovr system, they have everything you need here to win now.

LAN - ( 51-43 ) The 2011 Champs have a strong core, money, and the 24th ovr system. This team is only 5.5 games out of the Div but lead the wild card race.

Col - ( 46-49 ) The Rockies have money, talent, and the 22nd ovr system. At this point they're only 5.5 games out of the wildcard so maybe you could be the one to build a winner here.

I just took on the Nationals rebuild project in the iMLB. All it takes is a quick read through the forum to see these GMs care about their league and have a prettty sharp sense of humor. Get in while you can!

Three teams are open, regular season just ended and the playoffs are about to start. Great time to take control of a team! The league will be switching to OOTP 11 in the future, fyi.

Baltimore Orioles
Finished the season 88 - 74 for second in the AL East. Good talent on the big league roster and talent in the minors, too. This team just needs a good manager to get them on track. Should be quick contenders. Good team for a newbie to take over.

Chicago White Sox
Finished the season 68 - 94 for fourth in the AL Central. Should have the 6th pick in the 2014 draft. Good talent at the major league level but pretty average in the minors. Would be a fun challenge for an experienced ootper, but by no means are they rebuild project.

Colorado Rockies
Finished the season 79 - 83, good enough for 4th in the NL West. Good team that was hit hard with injuries. Strong big league roster coupled with good talent in the minors. With the right guidance, the Rockies can more than hold their own right away in a competitive division.
