Yes, as it is, it appears a bit lame coming out of a game like that with only a "sore wrist." That's the minor drawback of a great simulation game like this; the AI lacks the human element, obvious statement that may be.

However, if it had been "broken wrist" or some other "no choice" injury, how poignant would that be? You would remember that game forever in the virtual history of your league. "So close... and never came close again..."

Just curious, but was the lead substantial? What kind of run support did he get in his performance?

Quite honestly, this doesn't even seem all that far-fetched to me considering the way that managers handle pitchers these days. Someday soon the almighty pitch count will eventually come before all else, including no-hitters and perfect games. Maybe OOTP is simply clairvoyant in this regard.

I don't know about this in this case anyway. If you're one pitch away from a perfect game, and your wrist is sore, couldn't you just throw a underhanded pitch if you had to and take a chance the defense comes up with a play for you? I would. Of course this would be out the window if the score was 1-0 or 2-0. Also, if the pitcher is the teams ace, the manager might not want to chance getting him a serious injury by having him pitch with a sore wrist. Still, just lob one in there underhanded for heaven's sake.

I think I'd rather throw it in underhanded instead of using my other arm for fear of looking like I'm throwing like a girl, which is what most of us would look like if we threw with our off-hands.

I can just about do it without looking like a girl, but I have even less velocity than normal (and I'm noodle armed at the best of times)

Jiminez had 128 pitches in his no no.

Also, I read somewhere that pitch counts have not changed all that much. It is just more consistent now. So instead of throwing 130 pitches one game and 70 the next, it is closer to the average each game.

I read that too and hunted up the link. It's interesting, though it only goes back to 1988.

Yeah, just re-found that one too. There was another one a while back that had Koufax and the rest of the Dodgers staff. If I remember it was something like that study from 1988-2008. But It had wild swings, like a couple games at huge pitch counts, a couple with really low ones. Which brought the average to around104 or something per start.

But, I might have just dreamt that up.

One suggestion and I know you'll hate it as you're obviously a dyed in the wool Yankees fan, but go with the idiot Johnny from his Red Sox days over the clean cut Johnny from his days in pinstripes. It captures the spirit of Johnny more than the clean cut version does.

You could always put Yankee fan til death beside it or AKA 1998 Yankees to indicate where your rooting interest lies. Just a thought.

Honestly, even if it had been 1-0 or 2-0, since it was opening day, I think I would have taken my chances on him. Surely in the coarse of the next 161 games we could have recovered from an opening day loss.

The only argument I can make for pulling him is that he is by far the best pitcher in the league, and its probably not a good idea to play around with injuries. Still, if I had been given the choice I would have left him in.

This brings up a good point. I am sure as it currently works, the injuries aren't determined until after the game, but if a player get a very minor day to day injury during a game, it would be nice to be given the option of keeping him on the field.

If a player gets any kind of injury, it'd be a great addition to the game if there were a pause and information disclosure with details. If it were a minor injury, a DTD that allowed for keeping him on the field, then having that option would only enhance the gaming experience. A version of visit the mound, but a Trainer to the Field.
