CPU keeps releasing prospects on Feb 8th???
Does anybody know what's going on here. I've just discovered that every year on Feb 8th a couple of my prospects will get released at random (see transaction log below). Now I've check to make sure I have not given control to my MM to cut players and this is not the case, also these guys are still under contract as they were just drafted the year before.
Another weird thing is starting in NOV the CPU will promote/demote (which they do have control of) these guys a bunch of times each and every day until they are released. (see below) Am I doing anything wrong here or is this a bug? Wednesday, February 8th, 2012 Released 2B Tom Sanford. Released 2B Zack Schneider. How many levels of minors do you have in your league setup?

Do you have minor league roster limits set?

Or put another way, remove the roster limits, if any, on your lowest Minor League levels.

As for the other issue, I've seen it in previous versions as well. I guess it's just really hard to program AI that's not ******ed in this aspect. God knows, it's been brought forward many times. |

Yeah, agreed. I'd say with the limited number of minor leagues you have in addition to the roster limits, this may happen a limited number of times. It can be lessened, but not eliminated. There's only so many places for them to go and value is hard to assign at those younger potentials even if they are draft picks or prospects. It's much better in 11 than it ever was, but in your case, RchW is offering sound advice here.

What I would do during the next off season is add a "Short Season A" team. A lot of times in my game, the AI, (minor league managers) will say a guy might be ready for "Short Season A", but apparently doesn't think he's ready for my regular "A" team. What you may have here is a manager who is conflicted because he doesn't have the option to send a guy to a short season A team. So he sends him to your A team then says "Crap, he's not ready for our A team, better send him back to rookie ball.
I'm only guessing, but I think it's a good guess.

Now before you decide to beat the "so we're all just beta tester" drum, let me say yes, we are, in the sense that issues of these kind come up, as it has here, are discussed, and people who have had experience with them do their best to interpret why it occured and what they did about it. Is it right to say both the issue and the answers are correct? Not at all. We, in fact, may be missing something altogether, but we're talking about it until we do know. We're suggesting possibilities. The OP is suggesting an issue with a symptom. While I respect literally ALL of your contributions, Craig, this one has to be focused on your first four words: If this is true. I throw this out there now before the line forms behind you inadvertantly, so don't take it personally. Thanks, as always, for the input.

Don't pre-beat a drum that I wasn't going to beat (lol).
I have nothing against Markus or his incredible baseball simulation - he does an incredible job. Frankly, with ANY application, you're basically a beta tester - heck, how many updates have been sent to everyone's "favorite" operating system? ![]() Really, I'd just like to know - because we all know that OOTP is a great game and it also can suck a lot of time (fortunately, it's "good" time) - what the settings are to maximize my experience and minimize the "oh crap!" after devoting one's time to a 10-year run to a league that eventually falls apart. For instance, while it's accurate, I find having multiple class A and a rookie league as just too much for me. I'd like to pair that down to A, AA and AAA. I'd also like to change my drafts to five rounds. However, I have no idea if either or both those options aren't going to seriously cripple my league later on. Markus can't be all things to all people (though he tries) - I'd really just like to know what options are ideal to mess with and which are not. Also - and I've seen this since the first day with Markus - when someone presents an issue the response (many times, not ALL the time) is "I tweaked it" or, "I fixed it". While it would make no sense to go into a 2-hour dissertation on how everything was tweaked or fixed, it would nice to occasionally hear, "I tweaked it, and here's what I did..." (without giving too much away, of course). The conversation in the other thread about advancing baserunners comes to mind. Anyway - OOTP is a great game - not knocking the game or Markus - it's just the more information the user has, the more he CAN play baseball as he wants to play it. |

Great. Was hoping you'd take my post in the spirit that you did. For some of us, the old days loom large when there were only AAA, AA, and A; a time when all was simpler and offered less, but was convenient and - most of the time - reliable. But now, when there is no need to run Cato or put your own nations in, customize your name files (though I know some still do), put in all your faces, etc... the complications and ramifications of a change run rampant and always, almost without exception, require these kinds of forum exchanges coupled with the many, many, tests and variations they're put through in the beta forum. Not all of them arise, in part because not all of them are conceived as being likely. This one, however, was remarked upon very late in the process and suspect was the number of minor leagues. Point being, it doesn't happen often. Now, if that is what is causing it, can we find a workaround, because I doubt it's a patchable issue? At this juncture, I hope the OP might take it upon himself to implement the suggestions either in his league or a trial league and see what he thinks OR accept the fact it may occur OR in light of being (hopefully) minimal, imagine that the AI in its questionable wisdom did a favor and eliminated the least-likely-to-succeed prospects rather than obsess with their resurrections. We'll see. Regardless, again, thanks for responding the way you did. That is how progress occurs.
