Buying Out Arbitration Years
I can't seem to find any players that are willing to let me buy out their arbitration years for a reasonable price.
Example: My 3B has an arbitration estimate of 11.3 mill per season for the next three years. He is asking for 14.7 per season for 3 years in an extension. I am willing to give him 14.7 only if he lets me have a 4th year (1 year over his arbitration years). This seems like it should be the normal trade-off for a team that is willing to pay above the arbitration estimate and giving the player guaranteed money in lieu of the risks that go with arbitration. I can never seem to get this scenario to play out. Am I wrong in my assumption that it should often (or even sometimes) work this way? |

I recently logged a bug ticket related to this, that outlined what salary structures arb-eligible players should accept, so I'm hoping this will get some attention soon. There are a few problems with this in the game now - players are often demanding too much for their arb years (but at the same time are sometimes undervaluing their FA years), and AI teams are too willing to buy out arb years at above market price. This area was adjusted late in beta, but I expect there are still issues here.

I have found the same problem with this and have thought the same thing. Hopefully this can get addressed and fixed/adjusted.

I haven't had much issue in ootp11 (mainly because I haven't really had any arb-eligible players I want to keep!) -
But in 10, I always found it was MUCH better to approach arb-eligible players in the winter/spring on extensions than during the arbitration period. The players seem to get awfully demanding when arb time comes around, but either they or agents seem much mellower otherwise. |
