What is the schema for the OOTP DAT files?

Hi,
I'm exploring the idea of writing some utilities for OOTP, but I can't find any information on the format of the DAT files. One forum member did tell me they are just binary files (as opposed to database files). Is there any information about the format of these binary files?

I'd be interested to get some information on this as well. I'd like a way to either directly edit the DAT files or else import team financial information so that I can write a little utility to preserve a desired competitive balance (or unbalance) in a fictional league.
