Probably. If you leave it on, player performance may vary unexpectedly during a season. However, that gets pre-empted with the next recalc.

A matter of taste (IMHO). Some people think the results are unrealistic for some players, and they are right. But not having the splits are unrealistic for others. It's one of those trade-off problems that are hard to avoid. If you use the splits, and you see a player for whom that is just not working, you can fix that player in the Editor, if you want.
