I just finished my initial draft for a fictional league. What does everyone think about filling the minors? I'm not sure if I should or shouldn't..

Don't do it.... shortly you'll have too many minor leaguers clogging up the system anyways.

Also consider the number of rounds you have in the amatuer draft. If you have it set too high ( 15 or the max 20) as you advance in your career, you will have the same clogged minor leagues. I made that mistake...once. Keep it set at around 5 or so.

Question Steve. If we shouldn't fill minors, how will ootp handle the very full (according to GForce) minor league rosters that he and Rolen are preparing?
Not to make light of their work but it would seem pointless to make such a complete set if it will foul up the game. Again, I have nothing but the utmost respect for the work they've done and continue to do, no flames please. Cheers Rich

IMO, unfortunately, the AI will probably handle a full Rolen's minor league roster badly. Though you probably wouldn't see the actual results of AI minor league management until you have knocked off a few career years.....Maybe the forthcoming update will address this issue.

I don't know maybe I'm off on this one... but I love to pack my minors. There really is nothing like seeing a 20th rd. pick become a good player. I just don't see how having too many good players or too many prospects is a problem. The great will always rise. Plus having all these players forces me to make decisions based on the players I value most and when/where to play them. I have not seen one case of a stars growth stagnated because of so called "clogging". If he is a talent I'm gonna play him. If not I'm gonna cut him or trade him. Maybe he becomes a star elsewhere, who cares. In essence your scouts become all that more valuable and talent evaluation is key. More players, more decisons, more talent, more fun

The problem is that the AI does not have the ability to do what you do. That results in an advantage for the player in solo play, especially as the years progress.
If the Rolen's minor league roster is full, then one workaround would be to set the amatuer draft to only 1 or 2 rounds. At least this will help manage the numbers early on. |

True. I'll tell you another problem (don't know if they are related) but I have seen many players flat out disappear.
Computer controlled team transaction log: Vincet Salcido was promoted for AAA Ottawa Lynx to . Gone, never to be seen or heard from again. [ 06-12-2002, 08:37 PM: Message edited by: ghostface ] |

An area that needs work.

Personally, I like to fill the minors, but I also take the time every year after spring training to go around and cut the A-Ball rosters down to no more than 5/6 SP, and no more than 2 at each position. I usually don't worry too much about MR/CL, unless they really got stockpiled. But if you're not willing to do that, definitely don't fill all of them. I'd personally still fill AA or AAA, because if the AI doesn't have a position player to fill in for an injury or trade at AAA/AA, they'll sometimes go to A-Ball for a guy and **** up his development.

Yes you are right. You can access them when bringing up the full roster on the roster screen. However, they are gone as far as playable characters. I have seen this happen in leagues only with a large quantity of players. Whether those players were added through the amatuer draft or by "filling the minor leagues" it doesn't seem to matter. But, I have only seen this happen on human controlled rosters when I fill minors with fictional. C'est la vie. Minor bug, major game
