Manually giving teams cash

I've seen a few mentions about people giving extra cash to some teams as sort of a "house rule." I have a few questions..

1) How do you determine what teams get the extra cash?

2) How much do you give?

3) Where should the money be given to help the team most? Straight out cash, give extra to media contract, etc?

I personally go about it like this,

if a team plunges into debt, I may give them enough cash to counter act that debt, resetting the clubs balance to zero, and in turn, as sort of like an interest payment, lower their budget, so that money cannot all be spent, but must stay in the club somehow.

Or I will simulate a new owner taking over the club, and him dumping his own wealth into the club. I only ever inject cash, I never mess about with media contract.
