Deadball era league

I am thinking about starting a deadball era historical league. I am wondering about which settings people may have used to keep it as authentic as possible. In regards to financials, free agency or anything else you may think of. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

One thing that the AI really doesn't do well in deadball-era games is value defense. With the large amount of errors in that period, they shoot themselves in the foot with poor defenders magnifying the errors even more.

I find it absurdly easy to win by merely putting together an adequate defensive team. Or at least that's the way it was in OOTP9. Not sure if that changed in OOTPX

That's interesting. I've also been thinking about starting a deadball era league. Maybe historical, maybe fictional. Anyhow, I still have ver9. There will be a holiday sale soon. Been going back and forth on if I'll upgrade now or wait for XI in the spring. If verX made that era better, that could push me over the edge. Would appreciate info on this.

He might consider using the Defensive Influence in the config file to make defense more important in the game. I have used it for my league... not deadball... and found it to make defense more of a factor.

Eugene, in verX, if that config file was changed, would it affect all leagues, or could it be made league specific?

could you make a copy and change one for the deadball league and have the other for a modern league? WOuld you be able to change it as the league advanced?

It is a global setting and would affect all leagues.

Sorry to be so long in replying.

If you should try to use the Defensive Influence settings, be sure to back-up your league first and then run some tests to see if you like the results.

I began using it several versions ago. I think it was Matter2003 who ran tests using it and came to the conclusion that it would indeed make defense more influential in the game. He gave some settings to use, but I have never been able to find them on the forums. At first I used the defensive influence settings to just lower the overall league fielding percentage from the default settings, which always seem to be based on Modern Day Baseball. I lowered the league average from .984 to .975. I wanted to play 1950's-style baseball. It worked well. I also increased the double plays which were too low with the default settings. I think this was OOTPB 2006 or 2007. Since then Markus has made it possible to change the fielding percentages and double plays with the League Modifiers. I still use the Defensive Influence in the config file to make defense more important in the game.
