Spring training rosters

How do you stop the sim from putting the entire 40-man roster on the 25-man roster during spring training.

OR

How do you get the sim to remove the players on the 25-man roster to get to the 25-man limit once spring training is over?

You can't.

The AI automatically puts all 40-man roster players on your major league roster for Spring Training. Then when the spring is over, you have to manually move them back down because there are some players that no longer have minor league options or can refuse an assignment.

In the real world, an MLB club brings its entire 40-man roster to its Major League spring training camp (along with some non-roster invitees from its minor league affiliates). During spring training the roster is slowly trimmed down to the 25-man opening day active roster by optioning players to the minors (along with the occasional release or outright assignment).

OOTP's requirement is meant to mimic MLB's approach. It also closes a loophole that under OOTP's previous method allowed a 40-man roster playersto be kept indefinitely in the minors.

I understand the logic. But if I'm playing solo with the sim managing the teams, why can't it "manage the teams". It is a royal pain to manage all 36 teams. Plus the fact, even when I take them off at the start of the regular season, the sim puts them back on and then stops because of this error. There has to be a setting somewhere.

did you mess with your managers options? i think ifyou have the game set to allow minor league managers do promotions they automaticaly promote you40 man to the bigsbut will not redemote them from the big league squad at the end of spring training.

I noticed this too that it promotes everyone on the 40-man roster to the active roster at the start of spring training. This didn't happen prior to version 10. I used to always manually promote the players I wanted to the active roster on the first day of spring training. What I hate most about this change is that if you don't have a full 40-man roster, it will promote additional players to fill out the 40-man roster. I had a "veteran" backup catcher on my roster at AAA who I had no intention of promoting to the active roster unless there was an injury situation that is now on my 40-man roster and active roster.

Mike2228 = that might be part of the issue. This is a converted 8 league, so am going back and redo all the setting in 8 and then convert as opposed to convert and change settings.

trreinhard - I am not seeing this problem. So far it is only calling up those on the 40 man roster. It there are only 37, then that is all that get called.

I never play with a full 40-man roster and have NEVER seen this happen.

That's not to say there could be a bug, but that's one I haven't seen or heard of before.

Well, that it ought not to do. Players should not be added to the 40-man roster unless the appropriate management task has been delegated to the AI. Real MLB clubs do sometimes start spring training with empty slots on the 40-man roster.

The St. Louis Cardinals, for example, opened spring training with 38 players on the 40-man roster for the 2004-06 seasons, and opened 2009 spring training with only 35 players on the 40-man.

I would still like to know how to set it up so the Ai manages the team. I've hit all the buttons (set all teams to AI, AI controlled rosters, etc) an all that happens is that the sim promotes all the players in the spring and stops at the regular season says team x has illegal number of players. If I remove them, the sim simply adds them back.

I've double checked my Manager Options. My team control settings are all set to me and my vacation settings are all on use current settings. I'm not "on vacation" so that shouldn't come into play. I even have commissioner mode and cannot be fired checked. This is the second season in a row I've seen it promote plays to fill out my 40-man roster when there were only 36 or 37 players on it.

I could be wrong but I think you will want to un-check commissioner mode. I never use it, unless I need to edit something, but it has you "act as" the gm\manager of the team you select which I believe has differences from "being" the gm. Hopefully someone else that plays this way or better understands the option will comment.
