How is free agent draft compensation determined?
In a league I'm in a player who'd been in the minor all the proceeding season was listed by the game as a Type A free agent and signed. The player who signed him didn't notice his status (we published a list prior to free agency) and lost the pick inadvertantly.
So my question is: "how are compensation levels assigned by the game?" |

Similar to how it is determined in the MLB. There is a formula that ranks the players. I think it uses the last two years of stats and the ratings, then ranks the players at similar positions. It might use minor league equivalents, I'm not sure. I think the formula in OOTP is slightly different than the Elias formula that MLB uses. But it is similar.
Hope that helps. Sometimes RL MLB has some not-so-desirable guys as Type A/B as well. For instance, I know Orlando Hudson has been a Type A guy for the last couple years. While Hudson is a decent enough player, I don't think I'd want to blow my first round pick to sign him. |
