AI replacement of pitchers in rotation in spring training

A question/problem
For the last 5-8 games in preseason we want to rest our starters who have made the rotation and look at pitchers for the final available spots. So on our active spring training 40 man roster we may have 8-9 starters. For those last few games we remove the pitchers who made the team, select them and then select “remove from pitching staff”. We insert the starters trying to win spots into the rotation, set the rotation settings to strict order and the number of pitchers in the rotation. The box is also checked for AI not to make roster changes. But, when we auto play and look at the box scores the starters who made the team who we thought we removed have been used as relievers in some games and in a few cases did actually start. I know we can send them to the minors or give them fake injuries or of course just not auto play but was just curious if there are any other options. Thanks.

Oh and any idea when the double split will ever be fully functional?

Yeah, you can't just pull them out of the rotation because the AI will use them (as you found out). The best way is to leave them in the rotation somewhere, using all six spots if necessary.

If you want to use more than six guys, then you might have to sim game by game, pulling the most tired guy out of the rotation and subbing in a fresh guy to start that game. The tired guys on the bench shouldn't get used in any circumstance.

In any case, if you leave the top 2-3 guys in the rotation somewhere and monkey around with the rotation a little, you can prevent those most important guys from getting used.

You might be able to use the 7-day lineup to get around this as well. Leave the guys you want to rest in the rotation, but assign whatever starter you want in the 7-day lineup. I haven't tried this though.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a try.
