BCHBL - Historical League starting in 1980

The Billy Chapel Historical Baseball League started with an inaugural draft and players based on the MLB of the year 1980.

If you are new to OOTP and have not been in another league for at least a month that used version 9 or 10... this may not be the league for you. The managers that make up the league at this point are veterans of the OOTP online community. Teaching a rookie getting their first taste of OOTP online league play is not going to happen successfully 9 times out of 10 in this particular league. I've been around long enough to see the statistical data for a league like this.

BUT if you are an OOTP veteran who is ready for a historical/fiction league based (from the start) on the MLB as it was in 1980... yet with an inaugural draft (but absolutely NO recal of ratings/talent)... you could be in for a surprise. The creators of the former CDBL, BCBL, as well as many of the current SIMBL are joining forces to bring you a league that is complete on all fronts. A team of commissioner and two simmers. A first rate website with one universal login for all features (accept StatsLab) including the forum and news articles. Use of the state of the art OOTP utility, StatsLab will be used. The commissioner of the BCHBL is the guy who gave Frank Homess the idea to incorporate widgets into StatsLab.

For more information you can see our Interactive Online League Directory profile. OR read through our constitution/rules.

To get on the waiting list for the BCHBL you MUST fill out a complete BCHBL registration form. The form can be found here:

There are currently only 8 teams for the Inaugural start-up. If you are new to OOTP and have not been in another league for at least a month that used version 9 or 10... this may not be the league for you. The 18 managers that make up the league at this point are veterans of the OOTP online community. To join the BCHBL and manage a team from the start (the inaugural draft is scheduled to start during the second week of January 2010) you MUST fill out a complete BCHBL registration form. The form can be found here:

We dumped the old file due to lack of interest. The most active 15 GMs thought this historical idea would be a great idea and we got a new simmer on board so that I'm not the one running them more than once a week.

We're down to 5 openings. Gonna update the list above.

We are down to 2 teams left and I think we just signed up a great guy this morning that will be taking one of them... so the door to get in on the inaugural draft and mold a team the way you want ... that door is closing here.

Hey guys, I'm a GM in this league and know the Commish from the SIMBL. A lot of the GMs are also from the SIMBL or other established leagues and are a pretty dedicated group. The amount of effort that has gone into this league is pretty huge. Things like getting the uniforms correct and StatsLab set up for the inaugural draft, something that takes a lot of manual editing.

Anyway, there is going to be a ton of parity in the league as the starting year is 1980 and the talent is being dispersed pretty evenly. So, there should be plenty of excitement. I'm not generally into historical leagues but this one has won me over.

I thought the vote would be close, but it was a landslide. Only one NL GM voted to bring the DH to the NL and I have kept his identity under lock and key so he doesn't have to dodge all the flying tomatoes and rotten fish.

We have two teams available after opening day:

Detroit (the GM busting his rear during the inaugural draft and has since been MIA).
Houston (the GM has to leave for personal reasons).

The BCHBL is a historic/fictional league with historic rookies entering the league via the ammy draft, but being left up to the game engine for filling out their potential (we are NOT using reCal). We are currently sitting at April 14, 1980 (next sim is tonight).

The AMMY Draft is stocked full of grate players and we just started so teams area really getting their first real phenoms... lots of big names int he draft (Orel Hershiser, Cal Ripken Jr, and the list is long).

We make FULL use of StatsLab. Check out our website here:
billychapel.com

AND to register for a team, fill out this form here:
New GM Registration | Billy Chapel Baseball League

The more references we can check in your OOTP online league "resume" the better, we don't take first come first serve, we take people that look like they'll be great GMs.

I am happy to report that we have filled the Detroit team and I have offered the Houston team to a prospective GM. So don't be afraid to sign up still. If you do we might either still have Houston available OR we'll get you on the waiting list.

We have an opening for the San Francisco Giants. Great team for someone who favors pitching... 2.86 ERA thru the first 5 weeks of the 1980 season. 2nd place in the NL West (6 team division).

We'll be picking a GM for the team by looking over all GM submissions in the next 12-48 hours; sign up here.

Our website works best with Firefox. It just got a major facelift and we added a privately run chatroom hosted on our own site with private rooms between managers being added this week.

We still have the one team open (San Francisco Giants). Been open for going on three days now and I don't like it. :-)

It's a good team too. AND this league s run top notch with multiple simmers, use of StatsLab, and even a private (league only) chatroom run on our own software.

Sign up here.

IF you always wanted to play in a historical league, but don't like the way a lot of league use ReCal OR the default database which make every player enter the league as major league ready... we do it a little different. The new player you all know enter the league a few seasons earlier than there RL debut's so that they have a lot of potential and still need some time in the minors to fill out their ratings. We've spent some time tweeking the engine so that all players don't fall of the face of the earth at 35. Some last into their late 30's and a couple at a time can last until 40 or 41ish... more like RL.

Have a look at us. We're one of the best looking, sites in all of OOTP and we strive to run our league like clock work best we can.

We filled our spot over the weekend. We are now full again. BUT you never know when another team opens up, so feel free to sign up HERE in advance to get on the waiting list. You will be contacted roughly 24-48 hours after sign up with your position in line for a team. IF you don't get that email, feel free to PM me regarding status on this forum.

I won't make the claim that the BCHBL is the best OOTP league in existance, but myself and the other people that help administrate and run simms and such do everything we can to make it one of the premier leagues in the OOTP community. It's been that way since 2000 when a lot of the same peeps started and were involved in the CDBL and Crash Davis community of leagues.
