Pastime Baseball League: Outstanding Hitter Award Voting
Maybe this will drum up some added interest in the thread.
With the inaugural PBL season done (well, the PBL Championship Series is ongoing, but the regular season is over), it's time for the awards. Rather than choose on my own, I figured I'd let you guys weigh in. I'll include five choices for each award. Pick one for each league, please. Voting will go through the weekend, as I should be ready to get the next season under way Monday. Northern League Outstanding Hitter Dan Brouthers (1B, Louisville Racers)
Roger Connor (1B, New York Heroes)
George Hall (CF, Sacramento Stingers)
Billy Hamilton (CF, Indianapolis Engines)
John O'Rourke (CF, Philadelphia Ringers)
Southern League Outstanding Hitter Cap Anson (1B, Memphis Strummers)
Ross Barnes (SS, New Orleans Knights)
Oscar Charleston (CF, Memphis Strummers)
Sam Thompson (RF, New Orleans Knights)
Deacon White (C, Memphis Strummers)
If you need any other stats to decide, let me know. Appreciate your taking the time to vote.

I think Hall s the undeniable winner in his league. But I see a race between Thompson and Charleston in the other.

It is really hard to argue with Hall as a choice. Oscar Charleston looks like the best all-around choice for me in the South.
I don't think it will effect my choice, but can you show how many runs they all scored? |

Hall was interesting. Dan Brouthers was absolutely unconscious in the first half of the season. At the end of May - in which he hit 14 homers - Brouthers was batting .381 with 22 homers and 50 RBI. He cooled but was certainly still respectable for the next three months, before tearing it up again with 15 homers and 42 RBI in the final two months of the season (the schedule I used had way too many off days, which stretched the season into late October...that will be fixed this season). Brouthers' September OPS? 1.414. But Hall was incredibly steady all season long. He never had a poor month (Brouthers, in contrast, hit .232 in June with a .717 OPS for the month). Hall's monthly OPS: 1.213, 1.246, 1.106, 1.036, 1.094, 1.039 and 1.537 (8 doubles and 10 homers in 27 hits out of 85 at bats). As for Charleston vs Thompson is a great one. Thompson was consistent until October, when he tanked. I'd punish him more for that if New Orleans hadn't fallen out of the race by then. Charleston, was pretty much the same, but didn't fade. His average month was slightly below Thompson's, but his best month - June, in which he hit 7 homers, drove in 32 runs, hit .409 and slugged .753 - trumped any single performance from Thompson. One incredible stat: Charleston hit .423, slugging .714 in 175 at bats with runners in scoring position. He drove in 104 runs in those ABs during the year. Thompson comparably hit .333, slugged .621 and drove in 91. Thompson posted a 25-game hitting streak, the PBL's longest this season. Charleston reached 20. |

BTW, I'm using 10 as a cutoff. If I get 10 people to vote, I'll use these results and make 'em final. Halfway there already.

William Foster,
Thanks for taking part...but you only voted for the Southern League award. Who would you pick for the Northern League Award? |
