Stopped working
Intel Pent (R) dual 2.2GHz. Vista Home Premium (x86 64 bit). 3.0 GB. Real Tec HD Audio. NVidea nforce 630i video card. I ran windows update.
I ordered X10. Played a custom standard game -- a few years. Began a 2nd cusdtom standard game. Everything fine and enjoying the improvements. Suddenly when game loaded error message to the effect that game "stopped working" and I must exit. This continues to occur whenever game is loaded and I try to do anything from Manager menu (i.e., press messages). I uninstall game and install from my disc (ordered w/ game). Same results. Tried to install from website -- same results. Contacted elicense (thinking it might be a license problem). After a number of e-mails they and advise that license is fine. They are even kind enough to call and try a reload -- same results. They advise to contact you using this forum. Help. |

I take it you've read all the info under the Problems with Vista thread?
And how did this thread get started in Logged Issues?

First, I have no idea how it started where it is. I attempted to follow directions and after a few attempts , voila.
Next, I've reviewed postings. The one I thought might help was about DEP. The problem (there) is that I'm good until I pick the "ootp setup.exe". When I click <Add> on the DEP tab I get nothing. When I click <OPEN> on the open window/Look in "System 32"/File name "ootp setup.ex" I get an error message = "ootp10setup.exe not found". I already know I'm stupid so I guess the question is can I (that's me) repair it or is it something that is impossible for ME to fix? thanx for your concern. |

And you're not stupid. You're smart enough to ask for some assistance. The only misfortunes you're dealing with right now are that the game is not working for you and you've landed with me trying to find the answer.

Sorry, it appeared there was a space but I returned and on closer examination there is no space -- they are the same. My fault.

Yes and no. It reads "ootp10setup.exe" (then it says Not found). Sorry if I'm being anal but you were right on when you caught what I thought was a space, so I'm attempting to be accurate and not waste your time.

All right. We'll get back to this area if we need to later. First, can you go into your saved games folder and delete, or at least rename, the last league you remember loading and see what happens then when the game tries to boot. In fact, you could rename all your leagues in that folder if you want. Just rename them with old in front of their names if you're interested in pursuing them later. But first, let's see what happens if it doesn't have any leagues to put in the Continue slot, just in case that's where the problem is occuring.

I'm going to show my ignorance, again.
To make a short story long: I opened OOTP 10. I went to the LOAD button. In it were three (3) "games" -- Let's call them A, B and default. I clicked on A and clicked the Delete button (near the bottom left). OK. I clicked on B and nothing happened -- it would show me neither Rename or Delete. I clicked on default and got an error message = "OOTP cannot load this database because the file world.dat is missing." I closed the game and went to START. In the search area I typed saved. I manuvered to OOTP and the saved game file contain B (above). I deleted to the recylce bin. I deleted the recycle bin. I started OOTP 10 and there was the name B in the CONTINUE button. I clicked default and saw the message (earlier described), and I clicked again. The CONTINUE button now read "default". I returned to LOAD GAME button and highlited the B game and clicked Delete. It seemed to work. I "Restarted" my machine and returned to OOTP 10 -- to be sure the CONTINUE button showed "default". It did not, it showed B again. I clicked the default game (got the message) and clicked again to get default on the CONTINUE button. I closed out of the game. I "restarted" my machine. I believe I then went to the Start button, typed "saved" into the search area, found game B again, deleted B (again). I looked for default but did not find it. I "Restarted" my machine. On the restart I came directly to this page and am leaving this message. I do not know that game B has been deleted, I do not know that game default has been deleted (I doubt it because I do not recall doing a delete). I do know they were turning me in circles and I did not see that playing on the wheel was fun. Probably made a simple procedure long and difficult but ... thanx |

IMHO, always delete the saved games through windows, not through the delete function within the game. Now, to re-reading your post. There is no default game. It's just a few chunks of data that serve as a placeholder until you create a game. After that, the last game you played will be in the Continue slot and you normally will use that selection. In some rare cases, like getting a world.dat error, I've recommended using the Load button to circumvent the Continue in order to get the game going again.
So where are we now, actually? I'm imagining you can now get to the opening screen, create a new game, and play if you wished. Is that right? Am I reading correctly, that you have now deleted - not renamed - your old games? So is there any game that you were playing that we need to see whether it can be salvaged?
