The replacment file (new one), must have the exact same name as the replaced file (old one).

it does have the same name unfortunately. The picture in the game no longer exists, unless the game is accessing/copying the files elsewhere.

If it has the same name, then it's not "unfortunate".

Which folder did you put the new picture in?

Hi there,

I'm kind of a newbie at this too, so I didn't know how to update player pics either. One thing that worked for me happened by mere accident.

It's kinda hard to explain but what happened was that I simulated a few days by accident and, since I ALWAYS back up when I save my leagues, I was able to go back to the date I wanted to be at, with no harm done.

Before the accident, I had one player (Chris Coste) traded from the Phillies to the Astros. Oddly enough, IRL, the guy was released by Philly and picked up by Houston so, I searched the web for his pic w/an Astros uniform and replaced his existing pic as a Phillie in my "photos" folder. I thought that Coste would be wearing his new uniform by next time I loaded the game. But, nothing happened! Then, when the accident took place and I loaded the game from back-up, Coste's old pic as a Phillie was gone and had been replaced with his new pic as an Astro!

I'm certain this isn't the most orthodox way to go, but another way to update player pics is by loading your game from back-up. But only AFTER you've replaced the original pic in your "photos" folder with the new one.
