Bunch of newbie questions...

Hello,
First off, I just want to say thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read through this and answer my questions. I appreciate it.

I have a bunch of questions that I've been thinking about. I'm in my 3rd year (August in 2011) in a regular...format (starting 2009, all mlb teams, etc.).

1) End of Season rating:

The first year I got a rating of 30 out of 100 and that was fine, the team didn't have a good year and didn't reach the goal of going .500%
The 2nd year the owner said the goal was again to be above .500%.

My team was a couple games over .500 (83-79) and 2GB from the Wild Card at the end of the year. Also, my payroll was about $20mil less than what was budgeted (payroll could have been $94 mil, it was at $73 mil or so). So after almost making the playoffs (2 GB of wild card), meeting the goal (.512 win %) and making a profit (Season Profit/Loss: +$23.6 Mil) I again only get 30 out of 100...

So I guess I have two questions. 1) How much does the rating matter when it comes to getting fired/getting new job offers? 2) (If the rating does matter somewhat) How is it figured out? What is it based off of?

2) Minor League/September Call up/Spring Training:

How do I get it so the computer doesn't automatically bring players up to my MLB roster when September rolls around or at the beginning of Spring Training?
I did have the "Minor League Promotions/Demotions" & "Minor League Lineups/Depth/Pitching" assigned to the "Minor League Managers" but have turned that off during the middle of this 3rd season. Is that why they were getting brought up? I did always have "Roster Moves (Demotions, Promotions, etc.)" set to myself though.
September is coming up in my season so I'm hoping to get this correct before then.
Basically, I'm still figuring out the waiver stuff but am getting frustrated at the beginning of the season when I have to reduce the roster down to 25 and then have to waste a Minor League Option for a guy to be on the MLB roster in March

3) Coaches/Managers
At the beginning on the 2011 season, I signed a new MLB bench coach and pitching coach. Both are guys that are highly rated but both had 0 years of experience. How much does the experience effect the coaches and teams performance?

4) Long relief
Is there a bullpen role that is set up for long relief? I figured Spot Starters is that role but my Set up guy will usually pitch longer than him. Here's an example of a recent game
SP goes 4.2 IP, allows 5 ER
Set Up Reliever comes in and pitches 2.2 IP, gives up 3 ER
theno other Set Up Reliever cmes in and pitches .2 IP, giving up 1 ER.
I lose 9-3.
My pitching staff is 5 SP, 1 Spot Starter, 3 Middle Relievers, 1 Mop Up, 2 Set up, 1 Closer

5) Talent Change
I have noticed that a lot of players ratings get changed very quickly (according to my scout) with every new report he comes out with. I have lowered the Talent Change Randomness to 60 but am not sure if that is the issue. Do the scouts always go back and forth on players? Or is that a sign of a bad scout?

6) Attitude
This isn't a big concern or anything, but was just curious...
I traded for a guy, Mitch Maier, in 2011. He was on KC in 09 (AAA & MLB) and had one 9-game suspension because of a brawl. In July 4th 2010, he got suspended for 8 games for a brawl and then on July 15th 2010 he got suspended again for 10 games for a brawl.
On July 28th, KC traded him to the Cubs.
Since then he's been an angel.
Is that based off their morale? Or something else? Or was that just completely random?

That's all for now. Thanks again for all who read this far.

I try and help with some of this:

The "score" you get is basically eye candy (because it's a game, you have to get a score). No effect on anything that happens in the game. I'm not sure that anyone has ever figured out the scoring system.

The September call-up shouldn't be a problem, as long as you have it set so that you control major league roster moves. ST is a different story. I think that has changed in OOTP10. Do a little searching in the General forum, cause there have been some threads on that subject, unless you get a answer here.

Don't know. Good question. Certainly it affects what you have to pay them, but I don't know how experience and ratings relate to one another.

No. The AI needs some help here, but so far it's still a part of the game that doesn't work as well as we might like. Might be fixed in the future.

Scouts can change their ratings based on the passage of time (they learn more about the players as they see more of them). Talent change can also happen. Player development happens (check the player development report, which is also subject to the scouting "fog" but gives you another data point for figuring out what's going on)

Another good question. I'm inclined to think that suspensions occur at random and that they have nothing to do with any player ratings. However, I can say that with any authority.

Thanks a lot Steve, I appreciate your help.

A lot of the questions were just things that came up and I was curious about. Nothing that really would make me stop playing, so a "Don't Know" is fine, just didn't want to be the only one who didn't know.

And yeah, I'm guessing that giving the computer some control over my minor league system caused some issues, I'm just hoping to get it right.

Oh yah, and *holy crap!*, never saw the whole teams Player Development section! That is awesome.

Thanks again for taking the time to send over the answers....
