Hoe Do You Teach A New Pitch?

I understand how to teach a player a new position. But how do you teach a pitcher to throw a new pitch? And can you specify which one to teach?

I believe it is just a matter of spending time in the minors with a good pitching coach. I don't think there is a way to manually teach pitchers.

I'd like some clarification from the powers-that-be.

Sometimes it seems it's been suggested that the development of a new pitch is simply a random event that is out of the control of the game player. But I hope this isn't true: it seems reasonable that pitchers are more likely to develop new pitches with better instruction (form, say, a pitching coach). Whether more game experience (say, measuring by innings or, perhaps, by a starter role) should be relevant is less clear to me. (As even a pitcher who never pitches in a game might be working day and night on a new pitch).

You cannot. It is determined by pitcher potential, coaching and several other criteria. All in all, it is currently a matter of luck as to what pitch can be learned.

And for that matter, what happened to setting goals in spring training and seeing how the players developed!?! I know I'm a version or two out of date, but I loved that feature much better than just managing a bunch of spring training games. Maybe some combination of the two?
