Expletive Mac Licensing Expletive
EDIT: This issue has been logged and is being discussed in additional gory detail in this thread. Go there and let this one die.
Hi, it's me again. Powerbook 1.67 GHZ, 1 GB RAM, Mac OSX 10.11.4. OOTP 10.0.7. Three launches in a row now OOTP has told me that my license has expired. Two of those three I unlicensed and then entered the license anew and everything was fine. This time, though, I can't unlicense the game. I go to Game Preferences, I click "Unlicense Game" and get the "Do you really want to do that?" pop up. I click "OK" and the window dismisses. Then I'm back at the prefs screen with "Unlicense Game" still as an option. If I say "OK" I wind up back at the main screen but the game is not unlicensed. If I continue into the game I had been playing everything loads fine but I'm then presented with the "Buy The Game" popup. PISD seems like a very good name for this licensing system. I'll try the now obligatory Mac "trash the app, replace the app" thing and see what happens. But honestly, replacing the app every third start is getting very, very old.

And the answer is no. Trashing/replacing the app has not fixed this. I'm now stuck with "Your license has expired" and I can't unlicense the game to reenter my license.

I am thinking of purchasing and am unsure if i want the MAC or the PC version. In the end i prefer the MAc but i have two PC i can run it on.
There seems to be a lot of issues with the MAC licensing. Noone seems to be complianint about the PC license. Anyone have comments have a good view of what is going on here? If this is not the right place for this just disregard. |

I'm having the same problem. This is really kind of pathetic. Except when I enter my #, and hit OK, the main menu just locks up.
I've got a feeling that the infernal "call home" that's installed on this thing is screwing things up. I was fine until tonight... now this.

For the benefit of those who might be reading the thread in an effort to help those of us who appear to be suffering this problem, unlike dodgers00 above, I have done no system updates of any kind leading up to this problem.

I too was having the Mac licensing issue and then, for some odd reason ... it stopped.
One thing I can tell you is that there are people dedicated to solving this issue. Some private messages and fix solutions have been bouncing around the beta team. Be patient ... a fix should be coming. |

The whole unlicense/relicense dance isn't working for me anymore. I'm off to restart and see if that knocks some sense into the game.

Someone may want to throw this issue up as a sticky... seeing how it seems to be specific to an OS.

Also, this particular iteration of receiving the error didn't come after (a) restarting or (b) doing anything with any kind of USB device. I had OOTP running. I closed it. I did put the machine to sleep, but I didn't restart. And then I woke it from sleep and launched the app and got the problem. So, perhaps sleep/wake from sleep does the same stuff as restarting? Except worse, since I can't even unlicense anymore.

Also, this is the thread in the logged issues forum that we're apparently suppose to search for. Hopefully this will help everyone else find the thread.

I will admit that your "search" response tweaked me a bit, though. If you had linked to the thread in question I probably would have responded with even less snippiness. Anyway, I'm off to cool down now. Thanks for your help.

I've added a link to this thread to the original BZ in case something in here may be of additional assistance in solving the problem. Thanks for your patience. I know it can be very frustrating. Add anything you think may help here or in the original thread jetking linked in his previous post.

As far as "buggiest", to each his own. This issue is a minor inconvenience. Besides not being able to get into the game, how do you know it is so buggy? |

As I have commented in other threads, I was the only mac user in the beta who had any notable problems. I think there were only two of us who ever had the problem described in this thread. There was some confusion about whether it was really a bug or something else. Only the widespread distribution of the game made it possible to determine for sure that it was a recurring problem.
The OOTP guys are not treating Mac users badly. They honestly didn't know this would be a problem. Give them a little time to work on it. Meantime, read the posts on the problems people are having with OOTP on Vista or the like and commiserate. ![]() I did have problems, but the game has been running stable and problem free for some time now, so it does work. |
