Local High School Student Selected As Arizona Diamonbacks GM
Phoenix Times
July 12, 1997

Phoenix high schooler Jon Smith, 17, was told on his birthday he would be heading the Arizona Diamondbacks into their first season in the MLB. There have been mixed feelings about this selection. "This shows me that this team is not committed to winning. Say goodbye to my money.", "Let him try it! I heard he was a genius!" says two fans. Jon allowed a single question to be asked. "I'm going to effectively use the foreign market. There are players out there that exceed players in the MLB." was Smith's remarks when asked where he would gain most of his talent. Will the question-able signing work out? Only time will tell.
