The Mexico Cervezas
Major League Baseball Announces New Team
Major League Baseball has announced a new team based in Mexico will enter the American League for the 1998 season. The team, known as the Mexico Cervezas, has been purchased by the popular beer company, Dos Equis. Their stadium, Dos Equis Stadium, located in Mexico City, will host an exhibition game against the Seattle Mariners in March. |

Cervezas Are Victorious In Exhibition
In the first game ever played at Dos Equis Stadium, an exhibition game against the Seattle Mariners, the Mexico Cervezas defeated the Mariners 5-3. Jeff Suppan, starting for the Cervezas, allowing two runs over seven innings, and Ricky Ledee hit two solo home runs. In the fifth inning, Mark Lewis hit a solo home run, and in the sixth, Jeremy Giambi and Paul Lo Duca walked with the bases loaded to score two runs. Dennis Martinez pitched a scoreless ninth, getting the save. |

Cervezas Drop Season Opener To Angels
The Mexico Cervezas lost their first regular season game, losing to the Anaheim Angels 4-3. Jeff Suppan pitched for Mexico, allowing three runs over six innings. Ruben Rivera hit a two run home run that tied the game at two in the fourth inning, and Jeremy Giambi followed with a home run of his own, giving the Cervezas a lead. The Angels tied the game in the fifth when Tim Salmon tripled home a run, and Jim Edmonds won it on a run scoring single in the bottom of the ninth off Dennis Martinez. |
