Historical games replay in PBP

Hello,

I'm thinking to start simming some historical games on OOTP, mostly played in PBP mode.

So what I'm mainly interested is the AI level in the PBP sims, strategy deepness and stats accuracy. I don't care about financial system, player developments, scoutung, league functions, graphics or other additional functions, just the computer's AI and the statistical accuracy in order to provide the best challenge each game.

So quite honestly I'm wondering whether or not it's worth purchasing some of the newer versions such as OOTP 6 or OOTP 9 or going with the good old OOTP 5 which is free.

I mean are there significant improvements in OOTP 6/9 as far as AI and PBP gameplay are concerned or not?
