Trouble in my 1883 season
I would like to begin play in 1883, but have the league totals be similar to those of the 1970s and 1980s. I downloaded the 1883 season and changed Import Settings and Player Creation Modifiers to 1974. Then I changed the potential ratings of the players so that more HRs would be hit and more walks drawn than in 1883. So far, so good. However, there were not enough players for a 21-man roster, so I filled the teams with fictional players. I noticed that their Offensive Ratings and Pitching Ratings were also set at the 1883 level (that is, they would hit few HRs and draw few walks).
Is there any way for the newly downloaded players to have the Ratings of players from the 1970s? Also, is there any way to have a sufficient number of new players appear as free agents each year and dispense with the amateur draft? A draft in 1883 strikes me as a bit unrealistic, though certainly not a an insurmountable problem. BTW, one thing I am unable to do is play a fully fictional game. I can play historical OOTP, but for some reason the fictional game makes my computer crash. Thank you for any help you can give. Charles |

Adjust the modifiers to 1974 specifications in the game setup screen rather than adjust each player. To add more HR's and BB's adjust the numbers upward.
So a draft in 1883 is unrealistic but those players having 1974 ratings ain't? I don't get the problem. If you turn off the draft rookies will become free agents until 1901 when they will start getting assigned to their original rookie teams. |

Just to restate in capital letters what Spritze said here — adjust the MODIFIER numbers upward, not the league total numbers. For reasons that have been often explained but never really understood by most of us, moving the league total numbers tends to move results in the direction opposite to what most of us would expect.
