Auto Scheduler Ideas

Okay vets primarily Mike and Conn Chris specifically how are you using the new scheduler options to help automate your uni. I would like to move my uni along a bit faster but find myself going back to my spreadsheet and randomly determining if guys fight this month or not base on when they last fight. I was wondering if you guys might elaborate a bit on what has changed for you with the new scheduler. Thanks in advance.

Hey Roy:

I have been using the days inactive pretty effectively. I am trying to hold everyone to no more than three fights per year so I use 120 days and never get someone with four fights unless I override.

I know that the days inactive has trouble when you set it to less than 60 days because of over-lapping months or something but my experience has been that 60+ days works great.

Okay so here is what i have.

I like to get my rookies (10 fights or less) fighting each month or at worst every other month. The fighters that are past the 10 fights i would like to try and get them 3-5 fights per year with anyone that is a major regional or world title holder fighting less really only as title defenses. My issue is some regions have better competition and i have nowhere near the number of fighters in my uni that you have. At what point do i have guys fight TCs rather than fighting the better fighters within their region. I would hate to have for example Tim Witherspoon fighting Ken Norton, and two other higher ranked fighter in a year because it could hurt his ranking but then again fighting TCs most of the time is a waste too. Just having a hard time with the total randomness that thing could get to. I guess this is kind of a catch 22.

Using the autoscheduler has sped up my uni but I still determine who fights that month by spreadsheet ... I use the autoscheduler to determine who they fight now.

Chris- so you do not penalize a fighter if in his previou fight he suffered a KO or TKO as far as needing to take time off?

Mike - About how many fighters do you have in your current database? So for each fighter you go thru and generate the random numbers to determine if a guy fights?

Chris do you still adhere to this breakout or has that changed?

a. I want established (ranked) fighters to have tune-up fights within their geographical regions.
--b. I want new fighters (less than 10 bouts) to face easy opponents.
--c. I want the higher ranked established fighters to fight on average 6 times per year. (This is a loose target, I have liked the system I use to-date because it seems to have most fighters in action about 6 times each year with plenty of outliers that fight twice or even eleven times.)
--d. I do not care if stiff and other professional opponents fight every month or even twice per month. They are the guys doing this to keep virtual bread on the table.

Hi Roy:

I do not use that system at all any longer because I stepped back to 1800 and there are only 130 fighters at this point.

However, you can still use that system in TBCB2.5:

If you want young fighters to only have safe bouts their first 10 times in the ring, just run your rookie scheduling separate from the regular scheduling. Set corner A to 10 fights or less and set corner B to highest rating value of 1 or 0. Add in the days inactive only on the corner A side to suit your plans and it should be just fine.

If you don't have enough cans in a given region and division you can create the desired number in a minute or so now.

Christopher

Edit: No, I do not bother with making stoppage loss victims take extra time off. In the old universe it would have been too time-consuming and in the new one, they only fight a few times per year anyway.

Thanks Chris. I decided that the more automated i can make my scheduling the more i will be able to get into it. When i start getting into my spreadsheet stuff i tend to get wrapped up in it and the next thing i know an hour has flown by.

I would say offhand that I have close to 1000 and yes I generate a random number for each fighter each month.

After I see who fights, then I see if the pre, post, end guys fight a TC or not. Then I pair up the title fights and hand hold the undefeated guys that are left. Everyone else is auto scheduled. One the scheduler decides who fights each other I pull out the notables (8 and above) for the fight cards and run the rest.

I am pressed for time -- it's hard for me to find time for games given my work hours, so I keep it really simple. I admit it is not as realistic as one would like, but perhaps you can use some part of what I do...

1. Every fighter I have fights 4 times per year (not like real life, I know, but I need a simple system).

2. In Jan/Apr/Jul/Oct, my top eight fighters battle (usually) each other. This is my "Elite Eight". The World and Regional championships are fought. I hand-pick these bouts.

3. In Feb/May/Aug/Nov, my middle level of boxers fight. All fight within their own region/group, using the Auto-Scheduler.

4. In Mar/Jun/Sep/Dec, my club fighters and beginners fight. I use the Auto-Scheduler. But I also look over the potential bouts made by the Auto-Scheduler and make a few revisions: in order to move my most promising newcomers along with good records, they box against lesser-talented boxers.

5. Every January, I promote/relegate boxers up and down my three levels, based upon their performance in the past year. This is when I also use the Random Fighter Generator to create new boxers.

This system is very simple. While it has its limitations, it allows me to spend more time enjoying the fights themselves. In a perfect world, I would have a more complex scheduling system like other members here have.

And let me comment on one prior point made:
Quote:

I use 35 days with zero problems. If you are having an issue with 60 days, perhaps that is because months range from 28-31 days. So for example, 28+30+2(of a 3rd month)=3 months but 30+30=2 months. I set mine to 35 days instead of 30 (for a month) and it works perfectly.

i use groups!!

Rookie Group -- must have 10 fights with TC

Club Group -- here he will fight people with more of 10 fights, after 15 bout he is ranked, and if he have at least 2 wins over the numer of defeats he jumps to the elite group

Elite Group -- he can fight against people with positive record, also he can fight for the normal titles (wbc, wba, ibf, wbo) or the WORLD TITLE BELT, also, the best 30 fights against them

i always use the autoscheduler

oh and i almost forget, at the end of each mont i made some fights between, people ranked on 20 to 40, so the people ranked over #30 can fight people over 20, so they can jump to the best 30 on the elite group and have better fights and hav e a better spot on the rankings

I wish all this good stuff was in one single place so I could find it when I need it.
