Three Rivers Turn Around - A Pittsburgh Pirates Dynasty
On September 7, 2009, the Pittsburgh Pirates set the record for most consecutive losing seasons, 17, by a franchise in any of the 4 major US sports leagues. OOTPX has been used to sim the 2009 season up to the point where the Pirates lose their 82nd game. It is at this point where this dynasty begins. Everything posted in this dynasty is fictional. Thanks for reading.
Saturday, September 12, 2009 By Gus Jenkins, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette It was history in the making last night in Houston for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Unfortunately, this is not the type of history you want your team to be making. With their 82nd loss of the 2009 season, the Pittsburgh Pirates have cemented their 17th consecutive losing season. This is the longest such streak among the 4 major US sports, surpassing the 16 year mark set by the Philadelphia Phillies from 1933-48. Pittsburgh Pirates ownership are expected to submit a press release later today. An anonymous source has told the Post-Gazette that a shake up is being made at the top of the organization. Code:
NL Central Standings Team W L PCT GB Milwaukee Brewers 81 59 .579 - Chicago Cubs 78 62 .557 3.0 St. Louis Cardinals 76 66 .535 6.0 Cincinnati Reds 74 67 .525 7.5 Houston Astros 70 71 .496 11.5 Pittsburgh Pirates 58 82 .414 23.0 Last edited by spleen1015; 09-11-2009 at 10:47 AM. |

Press Release
09/12/2009 2:14 PM ET The Pittsburgh Pirates organization has held a proud tradition over the years. Since 1871, the Pirates have been a member of the National League and Major League Baseball. For the last 17 years, this tradition has been tarnished with repeated losing and low expectations. The time has come for the a Pittsburgh Pirates revival. Starting today, principal management of the team has been handed over to Matt Mays. There is a lot of work to be done to turn around this franchise and Matt Mays is the right person for the job. |

by Matt Mays 2009-09-12 Greetings Pirates fans! First, I need to thank Pirates' ownership for having the confidence in me to restore some dignity to this ball club. I know the job here isn't going to be easy. Quite frankly, there's not very many exception ball players here that could help lead this team back to its winning ways. We're going to change that. For starters, we need to get better at drafting young players. The rebuilding process required demands that we get better at evaluating the young players heading into the league. Secondly, we're not going to be trading away great players for unknown talents from other teams. We need these players to help with the continual improvement of this team. The fans of this team deserve better than what they have been getting for the last 16 years. You can't call it rebuilding if you never actually build anything. It is time to build something. Bare with us fans. We're going to bring winning back to Pittsburgh! |
