Question Question on defensive ratings

Started a historical league (1920) and just finished the first season and am in my first offseason (Dec 8 to be exact). Happened to notice my starting 2b from the year before (who rated over 60 on the 1-100 scale at 2B & 45 at SS) was now a CF w/ poor ratings (18 at LF, 10 at CF & just 8 at 2B, where he played well above average the previous year). I then looked at all my team's position ratings to see who else changed (had ratings of at least 60 for each starter, and some backups the previous season), but the only player rated above 40 at their position was my catcher, who stayed at 80. Looking at the league as a whole, I noticed a league-wide drop in position ratings.

Do the ratings just drop in the offseason for some reason? Is this a bug of some sort? Just a product of the era (even though 1920 had normal ratings)?

I'm just a little confused about this is all. No use keeping my Gold Glover if I can bring in a bigger bat with the same defensive ratings

Here's a screenshot of what the settings are. Had "base roles/positions on" set to 'real life stats' when the offseason started, but figured by turning this off, it would help stop the random position changes.

Screenshots of the Position Ratings for all 1B, SS & CF (Catcher ratings seem to be the most normal...2B & LF are a little better, 3B & RF are the same as the ones I posted).

Is this really normal?

I'd start the league over with all of the historical fielding changes stuff turned off and left off. I can't imagine it is anything other than those settings.

Thanks, so just have "base role/position" set to 'ai evaluation' from the beginning?

no, I think the main thing you would want to do is uncheck the box that says "recalc stats after every season"
