Save Oppurtunities?

I just noticed that when you pitch in the bottom of an extra inning game on with the lead it does not count as a save oppurtunity... Why not?

If you're the visiting team and you score in the top of the inning, the pitcher who gets the last three outs would be the game winner, thats why no save is involved

Hmm, that however depends on the timing of the pitching change.

The winning pitcher is the pitcher listed on the mound during the time the lead was taken. If you change the pitcher in the bottom of the inning, that pitcher relieves the previous pitcher and is now in a save situation.

You are correct,so I guess the only way it isn't a save opportunity is if he pinch hit for the pitcher before he took the lead?

IRL if the visiting team wins in extra innings the winning pitcher is always the pitcher that got the last out of the bottom of the inning prior to the team taking the lead. When the run scores in the top of the inning has no bearing on who should get the win. If Chad Durbin pitches the bottom of the 11th and the inning ends tie and the Phillies get a run or more in the top of the 12th then Chard Durbin is set to get the win. Should they have pinch hit for him before or after the run is scored and if they score 3 or less runs in that inning then it will be a save opp for the first pitcher in and any subsequent pitcher to enter until the game is tied or ends in the bottom of that inning.

Now if the team scored 4 or more runs in the 12th then it would not be a save opp until the home team either scored a run or put the tying run in the on deck circle and then only if a new pitcher was brought in at that point.
