AI teams release players = NO CONTRACT OBLIGATION?!?

One of my teams released a pitcher who was in the first year of a 4 year $64 million dollar deal. Now, unless it's burried somewhere in their budget, they didn't have to pay for the rest of his contract? It's not itemized on any of the budget sheets for the team.

Where could I confirm that they did release him WITHOUT having to pay his contract?

Go to the player salary page and divide the total salary by 162(or however many games your season is) Once you have this number you can go to the financials page in the center column and look for the player expenses line.Divide that amount by the number of games already played, the numbers should be the same.

the real question is why would they ever release a player with that kind of contract?

Maybe the AI uses the pre-1947 MLB style of contract where a player can be released and is only owed 10 days' pay?

The AI has to pay for the whole contract. The only way the AI (or the user for that matter) does not owe the money is if it is a career ending injury.

I take it that's to simulate insurance? Could we have an option to turn that off?

I don't think there should be CEI's in the first place. Ratings should just take a hit to the point no team wants to sign the player, and therefore it would be more of a wait and see situation which is more realistic IMO.

Cool. Can I just ask why not? (ignoring the fact that no players union in history would sign such a thing in a CBA...)

We already have so many options, this one isn't important enough to add IMO...

Upon further review - they did pay him, it's just not listed anymore on the individual player salary page, just in the overall team total.

And, they released him because he sucked. Still, it was his first year in the league and seems to be a total boneheaded move. I mean, you gotta pay him - at least give him a second chance or try and trade him. Bullpen mopup guy - anything but just eat that contract!!!

Feh - well, he did have the worst ERA of any pitcher with over 100 IP aaaaaaaand the worst VORP of ANY pitcher. Sooo. . . I of course just offered him a minor league deal.
