New team

Is there any way to take over an expansion team and conduct the expansion draft myself? It seems when you start a new game, you begin at the start of the season (or is it spring training?).

I don't see why not, since you do start a new game at the beginning of the year if not preseason (some people are confused by some quickstart mods that have been advanced to Spring Training or Opening Day). It may help to also be the commissioner, at least temporarily, as well as an expansion club GM/owner. Read more about it here:

Thanks. Appreciate the help (even if you ARE a Yankee). I'm always impressed when a HOFer is willing to take to us lowly batboys.

If you want to get in on the expansion draft, you have to assign yourself the team at the very end of the playoffs the season before. Found this out quite by accident - start the league a few years prior to when you want to run your team (to build up the minor leagues) - then assign yourself the expansion team immediately after the playoffs are over for the prior season. For instance, I wanted to start with the Washington Senators in 1961. The Senators were not available to me until October 9th, the day after the 1960 season ended. You have to assign yourself as manager right then, because the moment the Senators become an entity, they start trying to claim waiver guys.

Once you are assigned as the manager, you can draft your team, make waiver claims, etc.
