Free Agents?

After a two week hiatus I'm back trying to get my golden era fictional league set up. Naturally I don't want free agency. But I can't seen to get rid of it. I've tried no financials, I've tried using financials and turning off all free agents. Nothing works. I sim a season, go to transactions, and there they are like a plague. Does anyone have any ideas on how to rid my league of them?

There are always going to be free agents, as players get cut, some go unsigned, etc.

You can "delete all free agents" if you want from the free agent screen, though.

So if I have financials off in 1950, the game won't incorporate free agency and have the ai take over the whole thing?

No, you wont have "free agency", but you will have free agents. As Carplos said, those players will be ones that get released from teams or not signed in a draft. I think you will still see salaries listed for players, but they dont mean anything

Rich, do you actually think when a player was cut in the 1950's he spontaniously cumbusted(Spinal Tap)?

If a player was cut in the 50s he typically still belonged to a major league team. Very few were cut and turned loose. Most were demoted to a minor league team but still had a contract with the parent club. That's why this is kind of confusing for me.

But if carplos says it will be fine, I guess it will. Maybe I'll start getting it after playing for a while.

Unless you add a minor league, in OOTP they will be released rather than sent down to the minors. You could add one minor league level if you'd rather give teams the option of "demoting" a player rather than releasing the to free agency. Some would still get outright released, though.

I added a AAA, AA, A, HS feeder league. The first 3 have 8 teams per division and each team is tied to a major leage club. The HS has 16 teams per division. Do you think most of the free agents are coming from that?

Do you have a draft that those High Schoolers feed into? If not, when they reach the age limit, they'll be released into the free agent pool for the professional organizations to sign.

You can look at the various transaction news pages to see where players are being release from too.

No draft. I'll bet that's a lot of the free agents right there. So it looks like the free agent list is just a simple way of putting new prospects that scouts went all over the country checking out. Makes sense.

Yeah, don't get too caught up in the title of the page... OOTP just uses the term "free agent" for all non-contracted players. Since there is no draft, a lot of the worst high schoolers will probably not be signed, since unlike in a draft, where teams can't pass like in real life, teams are forced to take players. All the top prospects should be signed, although a few may last longer than you expect at times.

If you were cut (released), you were a free agent. If you were assigned or demoted you were not cut and still under contract.

See this from Zack Wheat's BR page.
